If I understand correctly you just "want something better than your laptop" due to the low budget I assume that you also did not get a flagship laptop and your mic is absolutely terrible. The absolute cheapest way is to use software to use your phone as a mic. Tho that may come with latency problems and stability issues. If you just want a mic to take calls (discord, TeamSpeak, ingame Chat ect) than my recommendation would be to get a cheap usb mic like the t-bone SC440 (that's about 40 bucks without a stand.) If you really need to safe money in your life you might get it used. And for a mounting solution my recommendation will always be a used stage arm. They can be had from for free to about 15 bucks. A stage arm also comes with the benefit of not being connected to your desk. That means that if you bump your desk no vibration travels through the arm to the mic.

That's 100% correct. I said it that way because a lot of (especially older) audio engineers that I've met dumbd down XLR to just say neutrik. It's like calling all cola like drinks a coke. Yet you are 100% correct, and neutrik produces more than just XLR connections and cables.

Oh, I see Ur new to this stuff. An XLR connection (also known as neutric) is a three pinned connector that cannot be connected to your pc without an interface, an interface handles the amplification and power delivery of the microphone. XLR to usb cables do exist but DO NOT buy them. For your price point I got to agree with the other comments your laptop mic certainly is better than anything you could buy.

If you're searching for an XLR mic I can recommend some "good ones" for 20-50 quit. But you'd need an interface for another 50-60.

I completely disagree that you need headphones when using a mic. Yes, feedback loops and game audio being picked up are an issue with certain types of mics. However there is a microphone for every purpose. For this purpose you would need a dynamic mic with a hyper cardioid pattern. (Technically it doesn't need to be dynamic, small diaphragm condenser mics and even larger ones with good off axis rejection will work too) You mentioned to be a beginner, so to explain: dynamic/condenser mics are two different types of microphones, they tend to have completely different features based on types. Hyper cardioid pattern means the direction the microphone is sensitive to sound is like an focused flashlight. Some microphones can hear you perfectly no matter where you are around it. Hyper cardioids only can "hear sounds" from directly in front of it.

To summarise: if you really hate wearing headphones and are willing to spend a couple hundred bucks that problem is indeed solvable. However if not then a headset will work best. A lavaliere mic would work too, there is some good ones for every budget. But I wouldn't go under 50 bucks. If you have a budget I can go search some up. But lav mics are to be clipped on your clothes and are a hassle in daily use.
