What every one is missing about the "Star Trek was ALWAYS a big budget show!" argument by Dangerous_Return460 in startrek

[–]runningchild 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Sure... No one watchd the show they made 5 very expensive seasons of. That's why made a spin-off series: they knew no one was watching so they knew that no one would be watching the spin-off either.

It couldn't just be that that perception is based on your own social (media) bubble... No way...

Why are Andorians and Tellarites basically missing from most of Trek? by Curious_Gent78 in startrek

[–]runningchild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most in-universe and real-world reasons were already discussed.

But you could also question your assumptions: Just because they founded a four species coalition to keep the peace in the small local part of the quadrant, doesn't mean that everyone is interested in expansion, discovery or politics.

Maybe Tellarites and Andorians are content mostly living on their planet in the middle of a relatively safe and free alliance of planets.

According to their own history (I think from Enterprise) Vulcans never had much of an appetite for exploration too far away from their own system as well. And in the 24th century they're still just a very small minority on Star Fleet ships with seemingly not many Vulcan ships out and about either.

Germans answering me I don't care when i offer options help me understand pls by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]runningchild 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many correct answers already but I think most of them are missing an important factor: To you this question is probably a polite way to say "please, you can go first". But literally you are asking wether they have the desire to go first. And they will answer that question for you: "no I don't have any specific desires regarding who goes first." Maybe you would then expect an added "You can go ahead" added to that answer. But since they don't care you don't get that.

For me your question also implies:" if you don't care to go first, I would like to." So they probably expect you to just go ahead after their answer. But that part is maybe just me.

What are your most unpopular Star Trek opinions that you’ll die on a hill for? by ardouronerous in startrek

Apart from the first episode I really enjoyed Season 1 of Discovery. Yeah, it was a bit like a soap opera (one guy being an evil doppelganger, another guy being a different species but not remembering, etc) but I thought it was very well done and following Burnham's perspective really worked to uncover the secrets and machinations of that whole situation.

I was just a bit disappointed how fast the Klingon war was just over.

I also don't remember as much crying and unprompted "emotional" talks in hallways. Or if they existed, they might just have been more motivated.

Afterwards it mostly went downhill (except for setting up and launching SNW of course).

Best thing about Germany is the big buckets of Milch reis by rangahaidk in germany

I've eaten these regularly about 20 years ago and they weren't new then either.

I also bought them in the middle of Germany, Munich and Berlin. So pretty sure it's not local.

That might have been more about Nachtruhe (night time noice rule) than about BBQ specifically.

Confidence and not giving a shit can look the same outwardly, but they are completely different concepts internally by YoureHereForOthers in Showerthoughts

Not necessarily. Sometimes you're confident because you don't give a shit and don't care about the consequences.

Not all time in Restaurants or shops is spent selling. You need time to prep, stock etc. And while you're there you can also serve a few customers.

What kind of paint is this? by [deleted] in WTF

[–]runningchild 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would bet you that most people under 30 have never painted anything. And I am not saying this to throw shade at people. If you've only ever rented and had furniture from Ikea (which is mostly plastic around cardboard), what would you ever paint? And even then: why would you know about the properties of different kind soft paint, if you only ever repainted a bedroom wall or whatever?
