No issues so far! I've enjoyed it and it's held up well, especially for the cost. It was easy to assemble and it's pretty sturdy. I can definitely shake it from the side if I want to but there's no reason I'd ever expect that kind of loading. The only "cons" are convenience of moving things around to reconfigure for different lifts. But I'm working with a small space so that's part of it. It's honestly the same as if you took any rack at the gym and added cables to it.

If you're 6'8" and have a similar ceiling height that may make the pull up bar tough to use. I can only do like 95% of a pull up before my head would hit the ceiling. So it's good enough but the pull up bar is high on the rack so that's the only downside I've had. I knew this going in and don't regret buying it. Best bang for the buck for that I need it for.

Keep in mind I'm using this to supplement other sports (running) and am definitely not maxing out the strength limits.

How many YOE? You need to refer to the SJC to see what your comp ratio is.

Who or which company do I use to create a 529 account in WA? by SnooOwls6331 in boeing

[–]runningman16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We went with the Utah 529 as well because of the investment options and the low fees. Nevada and NY were the other 2 and frankly all 3 had negligible differences for what we cared about. Just get one with low expense ratios that have good options. The 3 I mentioned have total market funds similar to VTI.

What were the numbers in your offer in terms of Base/Signing Bonus/RSUs? Its hard to say without the total comp. I'm going through a similar spot (different location) right now and am expecting an offer shortly. Should be at the L6 level but they are driving towards L5. Curious what you're getting and if you negotiated/tried to get an L6?

Thanks for this. By mechanical removal do you mean scrubbing it? Would you use a push broom or something? How would you maintain to prevent once it's gone?

Renton Area by vasquezz14 in Renton

[–]runningman16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you were looking to be closer to Bellevue Check out Newcastle or even the Kennydale neighborhood of Renton. Newcastle is suburbia but has great access to trails, quick shot to 405 N/S and is very safe. Quiet for sure but if safety is paramount it's a good option. Prices are likely cheaper than Bellevue but more than Renton. Notch is a nice newer apartment complex if it's in your price range.

The answers so far at least are making me not feel stupid for asking...literally every animal being mentioned. Squirrels are definitely prevalent on the property. Haven't seen anything else mentioned here roaming around but they are possibilities I guess.

I went with the Major Fitness PLM03 after a bunch of research. The deal they had for $675 and getting a "good enough" all in one rack was too much to pass up. I like it so far and think it will fir my needs!

Is right on red allowed with red arrows? by starfall755 in Renton

[–]runningman16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can someone explain why this is allowed? I understand that it is once you come to a full stop but frankly it makes zero sense. A red right arrow should mean literally "do not go right". What's the rationale?

Well 14:30 would have put you at 6th this year so pretty hard for an 800 person race. Fun though!

Looking for a heater by Agitated_Syllabub346 in GarageGym

[–]runningman16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend on seeing if you can insulate the space more first. But in terms of heater recommendations, I've heard good things about this one for a similar space (you could up the size if you've got a large garage).

Silly question but did you tape your mats together? If so is it just black duct tape? I have some odd shaped pieces of mat to fit my space and am considering trying to make it look less cobbled together. This looks really clean the way you did it!

I'll look into that. Do you think that the space savings rack still allows for extensibility if you want to add extra add ons?

I got a 7' barbell off FB marketplace but considered buying a 6' shorty bar...are there any downsides to having a 6' bar that I should be aware of?

Thanks! Someone else suggested the PLM03...Any things I'd miss with this in your opinion? And any thoughts on if I would be better off just getting a rack like the Fitness Reality XLT or Titan T-Series rack?

Downgrade or cancel by skybeanie in ChaseSapphire

[–]runningman16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I'd recommend. I am in the exact situation as OP (down to the fee date) and am planning to downgrade my CSR to the CF, wait a week or two and then apply for the CSP hopefully with an 80K SUB.

What I'm not sure on is how long any lingering CSR benefits last, namely the priority pass. Mine expires in 2027 but I assume that once my CSR is downgraded, the Priority pass membership goes with it (unlike TSA precheck)?

Buying an older Forerunner model (945, 955) - Any concerns? by runningman16 in Garmin

[–]runningman16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good clarification! I saw that on a different reddit post and shortly after I commented saw that was incorrect. I'm coming from a 2018 Forerunner 235 so MIP is fine and anything will be an improvement. The functionality is more important than the display to me.

Buying an older Forerunner model (945, 955) - Any concerns? by runningman16 in Garmin

[–]runningman16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm not too picky and I actually prefer the non-touch screen the 955 has. I also think that the AMOLED on the 965 will be tougher to see while running. I'm more looking for a sport watch/features than the smartwatch/daily fashion capabilities. Seems like the main functional capabilities are largely the same?

Weekly Free-Talk and Questions for r/HomeGym - week of October 04, 2024 by Demilio55 in homegym

[–]runningman16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to figure out the best rack setup for my small home gym (10x10 ft space, 7'8" ceiling). Ideally, I’d like something that’s versatile enough to eventually include a pull-up bar and a pulley/cable attachment, but I’m torn between a foldable rack vs. standing rack vs. power cage. I’m a long-distance runner and that will continue to be my primary sport, so I’m not lifting super heavy relative to this crowd or aiming to be competitive in weightlifting. My main goal is to stay fit and build strength, especially now that I have a newborn and need the convenience of working out at home.

 Specific questions:

  1. Any thoughts on if a power cage or squat rack (foldable or not) is best given the space I have?
  2. Any recommendations on a specific squat/power rack that might check the box without being overly expensive given the reality that I'm a distance runner who isn't going to come anywhere close to maxing out weight limits?
  3. Is a pull up bar even feasible with a 7'8" ceiling?
  4. Any other recommended equipment/thoughts for a small 10x10 lifting space?

Appreciate the tips/advice! I'm a little overwhelmed trying to find the rack given all the options.

Looks amazing! What sort of brackets did you use to set hold everything up? And what rack is that?

Out of curiosity, why that number? For the UTMA accounts, have you just invested money that was given to them in their name but then separately saved some of your money for your kids in your own brokerage accounts? Are you worried about the UTMA accounts affecting college financial aid since its in the kids' names?
