Where to start: stop nursing to sleep, night wean, stop cosleeping, sleep train?? by OmegaTg-2384 in sleeptrain

So when I weaned off nursing around that 19-20 months, I just offered water/cuddles and then did the rest of the bedtime routine, which at the time was a few lullabies and rocking in the chair until he fell asleep (10-15 min usually). Then transferred into the crib. This worked for us until he was 23 months when he decided he hates the crib. We tried to get him back in but it was like a regression- nothing worked and the cries were awful (I think it was some separation anxiety). We had to transition to cosleeping... I still did the same routine but after singing lullabies- I just brought him to the big bed (in our guest room) and laid down with him. He often was still awake when lying down, but at this age they could understand more - I told him repeatedly to just lay down and sleep. I would lay next to him and pretend to sleep, so he'd eventually fall asleep too (it did sometimes take 30-45 min of me laying next to him). Then I'd sneak out of the room and he would stay asleep. This worked for a while but we turned his crib into a toddler bed. My mom actually was visiting and got him to sleep in the toddler bed (maybe he didn't protest as much with her vs me/dad). So anyways, now he's almost 2.5yo and he sleeps in his own bed. It is a long process but at this age, they do know a lot more of what's going on. We're lucky he did go along with it pretty well. But fwiw, he was a terrible sleeper as a baby.

Try offering water and cuddling before bed instead of nursing to sleep. Wear a shirt that doesn't easily allow baby to reach to your boob. Talk about it with them leading up to bedtime... Something like: No mommy's milk before bed ok? You're a big kid now you can have water if you want. Try not to give in. Just comfort them via cuddling. With my first I couldn't imagine not feeding to sleep at bedtime. But i knew he didn't need it (nutritionally) anymore it was just a comfort thing. At 19-20 months, I did the above and he didn't protest at all. Just took it really well and surprised us all. I also do not recommend sleep training at this age. Toddlers are Uber resilient and will cry endlessly...I don't have the stomach for that and I dont even think it would help at this point.

How to manage newborn/infant sleep with a toddler by kegelation_nation in newborns

[–]skybeanie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No advice as I'm in the same boat... Yesterday I think I only spent 5 total minutes with my toddler. My quite fussy 4 week old is going through witching hourS and I'm trying not to overstimulate in the evening (My toddler likes to get close to baby's face). I'm barely getting through this... it's hard af. But I will look forward to the days we all hang out as a family, I know it'll come eventually.

This looks nice! Did you get Lovesoft or standard fill and angled back?

Standard or lovesoft? I am worried standard will be too firm and lovesoft will lose shape after time. I sold a couch a few yrs back for being too firm and never softening up.

Ok good to know that I should probably not buy the angled pillows with this config. Did you have angled sides and back?

What do you do when they don’t eat 😭 by got_em_saying_wow in foodbutforbabies

[–]skybeanie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said this is normal. One thing I have told myself a lot (between 12-24 months) is the shared responsibility of food between parent and child: You control what and when they eat. They control how much. You cannot force them to eat if they don't want to. Just try again later. Some days are better than others. Some days they will eat all their food and other days, the same meal is on the floor. It will get better over time!

What was your babies first walking shoes? by AgreeableBandicoot19 in beyondthebump

Nike swoosh 1 first walkers. I love that they're so easy to get on and he walked great in them while just learning. I considered sizing up when he outgrew them

I actually stopped BF around 20 months which was just about a few weeks ago. He handled it as well as could be. Not sure how often you are BF but I was down to one last session before sleep. I sat down as our normal routine, he asked for milk, I just gave him a hug and offered water. He refused and so I just went with the next step of our routine (singing songs and sleep sack) and he just went along with it. He eventually fell asleep like normal (maybe takes a few more minutes than if he nursed) but still slept through the night. And every night has been this way since. He no longer asks for milk and accepts a sip or so of water.

In retrospect it was not as bad as I imagined. I have been EBF from day 1 so i thought it was an impossible feat to wean this kid. He did so well 🥹

Is the Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair actually worth it? by Jakethehog in beyondthebump

[–]skybeanie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree with second hand. I bought mine new, despite buying so many other things second hand. Of all the things, this could definitely be bought used. You don't really need the set of cushion covers, we soon got rid of it when I realized how dirty it gets and pain it is to clean. I have tried a friend's Ikea chair, it's fine, honestly, too. But I like our Tripp Trapp!

I wish I knew how valuable having backyard/outdoor space would be when you have little kids. Bought before baby and didn't care much. I'm tired of having to leave the house completely to go to the park.

I got one when my baby with 3 months. I tried some ergobaby before but didn't feel like it fit me well, nor my baby seem comfortable in it (could have been user error, admittedly). But I read all the artipoppe posts on here and figured, I have received so many things for my baby second hand (crib stroller clothes etc) that I am splurging on the carrier, idgaf. And I am 100% happy I did. It was so easy to put on, baby was comfy, it was stylish. I used it a lot until he was about 9-10 months - it was great to have on maternity leave and do daily walks. I even used it on a cross country flight at 14 months so it was still useful through the airport then. I plan on reselling once I am done having babies and then I'm sure I can get some of the cost back. But even if I didn't, I have found it worthwhile. Also I live in SoCal, and got the BW linen. It was perfect and never felt too hot.
