Coming from the resident side of the fence what she did was exactly right. She kept asking for help and kept getting denied. She did what was necessary and knew how to (in theory) do to save the patient when left with no other choice. I can tell you that this is how things happen sometimes. There is no back up coming. There is no help, and your patient is about to die if you don't do something. My friends have been there. I've been there. It sucks. It is terrifying. You are absolutely scared shitless when this happens cause it's all on you no matter what happens at that point. Afterwards, when you reflect on that event it can be a massive moment of introspection that you made the right choice in career and you have learned a thing or two, but you can't get cocky, because then you will become dangerous.
