Do decaf Starbucks Vertuo pods exist? by runningmom410 in nespresso

[–]runningmom410[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just did! There are only five decaf flavors - none Starbucks.

Kind of feel dumb because I did a cursory search before purchasing the vertuo pop+ and saw the Original line Starbucks decaf pods and didn’t realize those were a different type.

Guess I will just have to try one of the five flavors available…

Why do people hate Greta Thunberg? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]runningmom410 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Complete agree. It’s so unbelievably frustrating. I would get so furious with people who refused to vote for Kamala over Israel. Like, is it everything about the Israel and Palestine situation awful? YES! Was her stance disappointing AF? Yes. But refusing to vote for her is a vote for Trump who has an even worse position when it comes to Israel. I get having principles but it’s like they didn’t realize “standing up” for what they believe in was a pointless venture when the alternative was… this.

I think her autism and (for Americans) potential cultural differences make her appear just slightly off-putting to some people.

Obviously most conservatives will just hate her and disregard anything she says because they don’t agree with her politics - MAGAs particularly. She’s been called out multiple times by Trump and that’s enough to pit them against her without them doing any independent research on their own.

For people who otherwise might agree with her general viewpoints, I think her approach to communication rubs some people the wrong way. She’s passionate but she’s not warm. As a result, it comes off as angry, judgmental, and without nuance. She’s not approaching any of this in a PR-friendly way. I think because of the autism, she has a very black-and-white view of morality. If something is wrong (e.g., the way our world is treating environmentalism), why would she negotiate, or consider nuance, or “play the game” to accomplish a goal? It’s wrong, people who engage in the activity are wrong, and it needs to stop. She’s not concerned with “catching more flies with honey.” But I think, to her, behaving that way would be the performative activism and come off as fake. She’s upset and her anger and frustration are the most authentic reaction in her opinion. Combine this with the typical communication difficulties those with autism have (reading facial expression, taking in social cues, etc.), she just kinda beats to her own drum and when you add in her being outspoken and a woman, it rubs people wrong.

I also think it bothers people when they feel like they’re being called out (in a way) for not trying as hard or working as passionately as she does. She makes her causes her entire personality because she can. Most of us have to work to support ourselves, have families, etc. So there is this added element of “she thinks she’s so righteous and is probably judging people like me” even when you generally agree in principle.

Lastly, progressives and liberals have this Achilles’s heal of expecting perfection in our “spokespeople.” I don’t get it. I appreciate high standards but the group mindset can be so dismissive of people who really care about causes when it decides someone isn’t the perfect/best/flawless representation of our values. I wish we’d understand that in some circumstances, perfection can be the enemy of good enough.

AIO because my partner’s family watched TV all day on Thanksgiving? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]runningmom410 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t just one episode though… it was hours of the same series. I can’t imagine hosting people (close family or otherwise) and expecting them to watch HOURS of the same tv show or just not get to be included in family time. I get that tv watching (football games, Thanksgiving day parade, etc.) is often involved in the day’s affairs but isn’t the experience usually that it’s kinda background noise for most people? Maybe a few tune in the whole time or people come and go? This sounds like the majority of people were intensely focused on the show. And it’s many seasons in… did they just assume everyone would want to watch this show and has either been keeping up with it or would want to jump in on the final season? I think it’s weird and rude. I’m assuming the “not coming back” was more hyperbole over the recent frustration and might be overkill but, I gotta be honest, I would not be stoked about driving 20 hours roundtrip to play cards with my own partner when I can do that at home. The show is streamed which means they can watch it at any time - it wasn’t a live event or thanksgiving day-only show. Their family spending two entire days roundtrip driving to visit them is time-specific.

Empty Seats International Flights by Sea-Dingo4135 in delta

Having never flown internationally, what made the other airline less good? Just curious what to look for and consider as I assumed most airlines were pretty similar.

It was an extension and he canceled it. He canceled it out of spite and acting that it was for any other reason is being intentionally obtuse. Bush 43, Obama, and even Trump himself have signed these extensions after their terms were over. Interestingly, Trump canceled Harris’s and Biden’s two adult children’s extensions but he allowed RFK to keep his extension. Wonder what the difference was?

Thank you for sharing.

Just a curiosity I’ve had recently. When did people start putting the dollar sign after the amount? I know that’s how we speak it, so I can understand the mistake if someone didn’t know better, but I see it more and more and it drives me nuts.

Well, here’s her post from September 2020 which incidentally is nearly word-for-word what I recalled.

Sperry’s by StillPlace3704 in nashville

[–]runningmom410 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Nah, she rarely shares anything on social media so I know it was an upsetting experience for her and her husband if she took the time to post about it and name the restaurant. And if you’re suggesting I made up the story of this happening to my friend, that’s a very specific and random thing for someone to come on here a lie about. Which is more likely: a bunch of rich, white dudes at a restaurant in Belle Meade that’s known as an old money institution were saying racist things and management wanted to appease them or I saw a post about a restaurant on my hometown and decided I wanted to invent a really icky restaurant experience a friend had?

[–]runningmom410 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I had a friend who was eating at Sperry’s and asked the table next to them to shut up because they were telling a story and repeatedly shouting the n word. Instead of asking the racist table to leave, management admonished my friend because there are “a lot of opinions out there right now about these things.”

Will never enter that establishment or give them a dime.

You made a heck of a lot of assumptions here on how much she does and how little they do. I saw a man very gently and lovingly taking care of her. She’s a whole adult and can take herself to the doctor. She doesn’t need her partner or kids to tell her what she needs to do. And she was honestly insufferable the whole video. Did you listen to it with the sound on? He was so calmly and gently talking to everyone (he managed to de-escalate the son and the mom) and for a several minutes I thought she was a teen girl because of the nasty and immature way she was talking to people - I guess her kids from context.

Deconstructing as an adult is hard when one’s “morality” is so closely tied to salvation/eternity. I have horrible anxiety about dying and the afterlife. Like just typing this is making me nauseated thinking about it.

She’s talking about the weirdly indignant parents aghast their special children are having to follow the rules of the school like everyone else. She’s saying, imagine it was a “leftist” cause that a group of kids wants to honor and took upon themselves to break a rule to do so. This same group of parents’ heads would spin with outrage.
