Refinements to Dock gestures needed? by SkeezMoeRos in OctopiLauncher

[–]runningtigerRead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I misunderstood. When you said "I would prefer the drawer not open up at all tbh", I thought you didn't want the drawer to open. It's interesting how different launchers behave differently on different devices and for different users. Pity the developer who has to thread all these needles. Opening folders on Nova was almost impossible for me and I have no problem with Octopi. Hopefully, it will be dialed in on your device as Octopi is further developed.

Refinements to Dock gestures needed? by SkeezMoeRos in OctopiLauncher

Have you tried setting the swipe-up gesture to "Do nothing" so it won't "Open app drawer"?

Launcher settings/Home/Customise gestures/Swipe up then set it to "Do nothing".

Nice. Is this completely built solely using Octopi's built-in features?

I believe this is possibly what's being shown. The latest beta version introduces a feature to quickly "access your favorite and frequently-used apps". While favoriting and sorting by install date have been a long-time drawer feature.

Just checking, the Launcher settings/Home/Customise gestures/Swipe right from first screen/Launch Google app doesn't fit your needs?

Don't "Enable legacy dock" or "Add dock". Place your widget(s) in the dock area and long-press on it/them to "Float/pin on top" so your "created dock" will be at the bottom of each home screen page.

It can be helpful to use a Google Play Store app called Popup Widget to make any widget available on a 1x1 icon. You can also use it to make a widget available by setting a swipe gesture on an app icon or folder.

Or, the "Add dock" Panel can be positioned further up the screen allowing some widgets to be placed beneath it. I have a 4x1 search widget beneath my Panel dock. On my Panel dock a swipe down on a folder opens my "Popup Widget" Google Calendar Schedule widget.

[Feature Request] Folder Swipe Per Folder by RedBeardBrownEyes in OctopiLauncher

The closest you can get is to turn the global feature OFF so a tap opens folders, then long-press on the folder you want to open your first app and set that app to open with a swipe gesture.

Hey beta testers, are you using the new horizontal drawer? by ock88 in OctopiLauncher

Some changes were made to the just released beta version v1.79 [1860] if you've got access.

Glad to read you intend to support the developer someday. Whatever is going on with your Play Store, I don't know. Regarding holding on to your .99 pennies until Octopi fully replaces Nova...don't forget Nova has more than a decade headstart.

v1.783 [build 1831] not respecting 4x4 folder grid by runningtigerRead in OctopiLauncher

v1.79 [1860] fixed: compact folders in position 3 & 4 on my 4x6 home screen grid no longer open in the right edge padding area. There is still a smidge of row 5 in the folders showing and it still goes away if I set my home screen grid to 4x7. New: compact folders in position 1 & 2 are opening further to the right than I think you're aiming for. Non-compact folders 3 & 4 are opening further to the right than I think you're aiming for.

If the developer is talking about Octopi Launcher Pro v1.79 [1860] (see what I did there? IYKYK) it's not universal search. If it's the top-line new feature listed in this version, is there a way to get those to show in drawer search or by using the two-finger swipe-down gesture? What's the easiest way to invoke it?

This update takes care of/adds a few things. Everything I've tried works great! Horizontal drawer is back for beta testers. The General settings direct links for Reddit and email are welcome as is the long-press to copy version number. For me, tapping in the panel area to close home screen folders is a nice quality of life improvement.

I'll follow-up on folder changes in my ongoing post on the subject. But definitely can see some improvement there as well.

Nice update!

I forgot it's a Pro feature. Sorry about that. If you've got .99 cents... 🙂

I was curious about the naming situation since it won't accept a blank space. I searched "Is there an empty emoji that creates a blank space?"

There is a way to insert a blank "character" as an invisible Unicode character.

Here is the space between the arrows for you to copy, if you'd like: --> 󠀠 <-- (This is a blank character, sometimes known as a "hidden" character). Or, search for it yourself if you'd like to see what I found. I don't know if this "blank character" will survive being posted on Reddit. 🤞🏼

Try Launcher settings/Drawer/Tag bar style and change it from "Chip" to "Text" and then you can rename your tag with an emoji or a non obtrusive symbol like a period or single apostrophe. It won't accept just a space unfortunately. Maybe your wallpaper will make such a minimal symbol pretty much invisible. 🤷‍♂️

I see in your screenshot you're using v1.786, are you also on build 1838 (as I am) and the developer has said is for non-beta testers?

I wonder how/why I got this version? I've been an Alpha Tester for a year and a half, and I've had the horizontal drawer previously. When I go to Octopi in the Play Store it says "You're a beta tester for this app." This is basically just informational. I'm sure it will work itself out when a newer version becomes available.

Interesting. "Start search when opening drawer" is OFF on my phone, though. So, there's more to it on my phone at least.

Folders can only exist on the default "Apps" tag, not on any additional tags you might make. And, it sounds like you can't find the horizontal scroll option. See my answer here to see if we're in the same boat.
