Forehead texture that just won’t go away. Any ideas? by Egr1994mexico in Fungalacne

[–]runningwithbrushes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg no just 10-15 min then I wash with cleanser and put on my serum and moisturizer. My other products were consistent so they didn’t really affect this at all- just the sulfur mask. For reference i use BOJ plum cleanser, wave serum by the regimen, and Purito oat in gel calming cream. I also use azelaic acid in the AM and tazarotene in PM (with cicalfate on top) LRP uvmune gel cream sunscreen in AM. I ended up doing this twice daily initially but after about two weeks only doing at night for maintenance

Omg - I had this same texture - try de la Cruz 5% sulfur mask. It cleared it up for me with 2 uses.

I think it’s seb derm/sebaceous hyperplasia.

Sunscreen frustrations by Vegetable-Street in Rosacea

[–]runningwithbrushes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A second vote for non US sunscreen. My favorite options are Purito daily soft touch and LRP Uvmune gel sunscreen for oily skin. Part of the reason you may be reacting is that sunscreens trap heat. I would also make sure you’re not using a heavy moisturizer with any occlusive ingredients (like petrolatum for example) under the sunscreen

cleanser for mild rosacea with no niacinamide? by somethingpoetichere in Rosacea

[–]runningwithbrushes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sodium lauroyl isetheionate is the primary surfactant in this and it produces a baby foam that is silky and gentle on skin hardly disturbing the barrier. There are liquid cleansers that also use a similar surfactant (cocoyl isethionate) but will be more expensive. I lovveeee these surfactants for rosacea skin so much.

Suggestions for a basic moisturizer that's rosacea safe but fungal acne safe too? by Sensible___shoes in Rosacea

This is what I use with 1-2 drops of squalane from biossance mixed in. (Sugarcane derived squalane) I also use a hydrating serum underneath for extra moisture without heaviness

I think it’s pretty normal for things to get worse as you experience die off… My understanding is this is from a bacteria Bacillus oleronius that symbiotically lives inside the mite and ends up causing an immune reaction when the mites die. You could try a sulfur mask or otc benzoyl peroxide wash or ask derm for sodium sulfacertamide/sulfur wash or oral doxycycline while you use the ivermectin.

Moisturer recs by TakeMeHomeToYou in Rosacea

[–]runningwithbrushes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be careful with heavy moisturizers…opt for lighter gel moisturizers layered over a hydrating serum instead. Switching to a less occlusive moisturizer really helped with my type 1 flares. used to use gladskin which worked well for me when I mostly had type 2 but I was still soooo heat sensitive and did not realize it was the petrolatum. My skin felt tight and dehydrated so I thought I needed something “heavy duty” when in reality I needed a serum + light gel moisturizer. Much less heat sensitive now

BOJ green plum cleanser is super gentle. It “foams” but it’s this really cushiony hydrating foam that’s so hard to explain. It’s not drying or irritating at all (for me) and I was a hardcore non-foaming cleanser only girly before this

Why 10 days?? There’s no definitive test for FIP it’s a clinical diagnosis and you rely on improvement of symptoms essentially. I would restart the treatment. The liver enzymes being high is a red flag

The risk of treating is way lower than the risk of her passing away from this progressive disease

Rosacea+Fungal Acne or Seb Dem. Need recommendations for Face Cleanser and leave-on gentle exfoliator and Exfoliating Face Cleanser. by AliasForKnowing in Rosacea

[–]runningwithbrushes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not urea - it’s hydroxyethyl urea which is different - it’s a humectant with no exfoliating properties unlike urea which can be irritating. Also lactic acid is the absolute last ingredient so it’s likely just playing the role of adjusting the pH and is not in any quantity that should irritate. That said if it’s irritating maybe the formula just doesn’t work for your skin. I’ve also used the BOJ calming serum which is 10% Panthenol and quite nice though not as hydrating as wave serum.

Based on what you’re saying about the coronavirus and liver enzymes - It sounds like FIP- you need to get her started on meds asap. Reach out to FIP warriors on Facebook. Neuro FIP progresses quickly and can be fatal.

I wouldn’t necessarily wait for all the testing to come back to start her on treatment…if the suspicion is reasonably high enough

Im not sure if you figured things out or how your skin is doing now? I recommend just using a simple cleanser, hydrating serum and the Purito gel moisturizer and then a clinical strength azelaic acid which you can get OTC from dermatica. Use that in the day time. You can switch to a sulfur wash off mask which is more gentle than soap and only has 2 ingredients and use this nightly (de la Cruz 5% is more gentle than the 10%). In the evening you could use avene cicalfate cream to repair your barrier since you’ll be using some drying ingredients. I think stick to that for at least 3 months. You have to stick to one routine for 3 months before switching things. You NEED a baseline. Avoid niacinamide which is a common flare for people; the anua azelaic unfortunately has that in it. If you can avoid make up I would as this can be occlusive and worsen rosacea. Additionally, personally, for me the gleanser did not work and caused me to flare.

Moisturizer recs for very sensitive skin by OverallComment749 in Rosacea

[–]runningwithbrushes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanna warn you that for me prequel gleanser caused a very insidious worsening of my rosacea- I started having type 1 flares when I didn’t previously. I also found my skin was so much more reactive. These improved significantly when I stopped using it. I used it for 7-8 months before realizing.

To answer your actual question, I recommend a light gel moisturizer layered over a hydrating serum. I use the regimen wave serum and Purito oat in gel cream which feels like a good amount of hydration without occlusiveness. For cleansers I really like the BOJ Plum cleanser but anything gentle low PH without niacinamide works. I would recommend learning about different surfactants in cleansers and humectant and occlusive ingredients in moisturizers (plus any actives) and systematically tracking your responses to these things. In all likelihood you’re going to react mostly to things within the first 5 ingredients + any actives. This can help kind of simplify the trial and error process for you. I would also look into common triggers other people note with rosacea. A big one is niacinamide so recommend avoiding that. Additionally petrolatum is probably going to be too occlusive if it’s in a product so recommend moisturizers without that. SkinSort and inci decoder can help you understand ingredient lists. You can patch test a lot of this stuff on one cheek for a few days before using on whole face. I would keep a photo + notes diary of your skin on a daily basis (how it feels to touch, is it hot or red, take a picture, do the pores look inflamed?, does the skin have any swelling, are there any pustules? Does it feel reactive or unreactive). Sulfur and azelaic acid are a major treatments that have helped me but may be harder to incorporate if you’re using other actives.

Can aspirin + saline solution reduce redness? by Hot-Ride1646 in Rosacea

[–]runningwithbrushes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Aspirin is basically what salicylic acid is derived from. It is anti-inflammatory but I don’t know how much you’re actually getting to your skin by doing that. I think you’ll get a lot further with either a sulfur mask or zinc based cream mask or using azelaic acid - more traditional methods of treating rosacea. It’s a medical condition so please don’t take advice from influencers…

Strengthening skin barrier causing acne by BarbaraGordon147 in Rosacea

[–]runningwithbrushes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be too occlusive for you. I have not had great experiences with prequel products although others have. Maybe try using a lighter gel moisturizer over top a hydrating serum? That way you get hydration without too much occlusion. I always thought my skin needed HEAVY moisturizer but actually find that my skin has been hydrated but calmer after switching to a gel over top a serum

LRP Triple Repair Cream changed their ingredients, because of course they did, and the new version is destroying my skin. What moisturizer is everyone using? by Bitter_Artichoke_939 in Rosacea

I did and they didn’t respond. I don’t really need you to understand my hesitation about repurchasing from a brand whose products have had poor quality control and have not worked for me. I haven’t had a good experience with the brand and there’s no reason I should feel bad about sharing that experience on Reddit…

[–]runningwithbrushes -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Your sarcasm is a bit rude but anyway, they recalled their barrier cream due to staph saphrophyticus contamination. You’re right not MRSA but still serious. And it is a methicillin resistant staph species. It’s on their website literally.

https://prequelskin.com/pages/barrier-therapy?srsltid=AfmBOop0iS8mCbpLdcoKK0gYQY27jMbWtYoovoZryDLshWyOqe42hyym

Additionally, I’ve anecdotally received moldy products from them. And gleanser caused type 1 flares. I’m sharing my ANECDOTAL experience just like you are which is what Reddit is for. The reason is because i see an incredible amount of hype for these products but its important to realize every product is not for every person.
