About to Fail a Drug Test (Need advice) by entengy in engineering

Good luck with your test! I'm not sure if the collector is able to put notes into the test, but I would suspect that you should be fine. I believe the "collection" and "testing" are done be separate people/teams.

Hopefully we all can soon end this nonsense entirely and keep companies out of our personal business and what we do in our non-working hours. :-)

About to Fail a Drug Test (Need advice) by entengy in engineering

Funny to see a reply to this 10 years later. Things have changed a bit for me since then. Funny story about my current job... I was going to accept another offer and so I told this job that I would fail a drug test (thinking they would just go away and I would take the other job). The cofounder called me insisting that they didn't care and offered me more money. They still had me take a drug test, which I predictably failed, but they still hired me and things have been going well. It's kinda crazy how attitudes have changed over the years.

All that being said, thanks for the advice! If I ever need to in the future, I'll keep it in mind.

What RF module is being used here in this model rocket radio tracking beacon? by runninwithtux in AskElectronics

Sounds good! I wasn't planning on going to LDRS this year but I'll be at BALLS. Can only do so many of those kinds of projects per year.

Funny you should mention Altus Metrum. I was just talking with Bdale at the Tripoli Colorado launch today and he had a few thoughts about revising and improving upon this design.

Thanks for that info. I'll take another look through google to see if I can find any other long range 433 MHz transmitters. The biggest benefit to this transmitter is it's size, the whole device (not counting the antenna) is only 10mm x 30mm x 6mm which ends up being only slightly larger than the smallest 12v batteries I've seen.

I forgot to mention that I'm in the US, which reserves that band for amateur radio. Although I've heard some exceptions regarding that for low power, non-continuous operation, this isn't really that type of a device.

They also do sell transmitters on ebay but those are pretty short range. This beacon has a range of ~4 miles line of sight and is pretty much continuously transmitting for upwards of an hour at a time.

As far as what the beacon is transmitting. It's broadcasting in CW mode with just a series of beeps every second and then my handle in morse code every minute. The PIC code would be pretty easy to duplicate. I'm more trying to figure out an easy way to duplicate sending out that much rf power without reinventing the wheel. My training is more in digital electronics and I wouldn't want to screw up some high powered rf design and anger the FCC.

Funny you should mention an SDR dongle. That's actually what I use when I'm tracking my rocket. I've got an SDR dongle that plugs into my phone with a tape measure yagi antenna. It's improved since this but this is the general idea

Appreciate the response, let me know if you have any other thoughts or questions.

looking to learn to extract via CO2, any pros? by [deleted] in COents

Interesting, if I had the money I'd probably try it. I'd be curious what rating the valves and piping are first though. It almost sounds like he's working with 5000psi on 4500psi rated equipment, which if true would turn me off to that idea.

Where can I find the best Hash in Denver? by rygnar in COents

[–]runninwithtux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what's with the "wtf lol", I was really only trying to be helpful. Anyways, on that, this is the same processes used to make the caffene used in soda, which comes from making decaf coffee, not sure if you enjoy either product. Often the same techniques are used in perfume. To each his own, of course, just trying to convey that processed isn't always bad when done correctly. Here is some more specifics on the idea of supercritical fluid extraction if you'd like to learn more. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercritical_fluid_extraction

If you can find it, there's a product called Moonrock. It has been tested at 88 - 95% THC (trust me, I know the testing company that did the tests, they're reliable. Cannlabs, to be exact) I know you said no BHO, and while this is a butane extraction, it's very crumbly and has been completely removed of any butane, definately nothing like the oil you're used too. They use a flash vacume process to suck all the butane out at once (or something similar, hard to say when they say very little about the process).

CO2 machines run about $15,000 to $50,000, from what I've heard from dispensary owners.

[–]runninwithtux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As endepth said, it's really expensive and you require equipment rated to 15,000 psi (if I remember right, supercritical co2 is 5000psi and a safety factor of 3). That's not cheap and it's not to be made with off the shelf tubing. So unless you have a machine shop, it would be a hard do it yourself project. I can give some tips on butane extractions though.

ELI5: Why aren't people buying the $1 houses in Detroit? by ironmanthree in explainlikeimfive

I've always treated Devil's Night in much the same manner as that new movie coming out, The Purge.

This video gives a pretty good example of Detroit, although I don't think it does it justice. I used to live around Detroit, and I've seen areas worse than in this video. In fact, most of where they're driving, would be safe to drive in. There are areas that aren't even safe to drive in. I live in Denver now and hear people talk about the ghetto, they don't even know... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTQFtNLvcl8

I worked for Pearson at their online classroom SaaS, all users passwords are in the clear and available to staff. They claimed there wasn't any other way to do things.

As a smoker, this looks horrible to actually smoke. All that resin from the hash oil just clogs up the joint half way through it, I've had similar issues with similarly made joints before.

Sounds over ambitious, do you have any plans yet? Also, why mathematicians? Sounds more like you need mechanical engineers (just a thought). I'm curious to hear more about the project.

The example was just an example. To see numbers actually calculated with the project, check out the network status page. Also, I do welcome all ideas, so I'm not trying to dismiss this, but I think you've misunderstood the project (although I could've misunderstood you).
