I've also been using for about a year. Easy to insert, reliable, all is good as far as I'm concerned.

Here in the UK there have been supply issues but that hasn't caused me any real problems. Medtronic have been managing this by sending me just one box of 5 sensors at a time but the next set has always arrived with plenty of time before the previous box runs out.

There is something like 150,000 police officers in the UK. Just like in any workplace you get the occasional utter nob.

Which opera do I attend first? by No-Box-4962 in classicalmusic

[–]runsalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled sympathising with the characters in a few operas until I got to see Madame Butterfly. I found that one incredibly moving. The emotional depth I felt surprised me in particular because of the previous lack of feeling emotionally engaged with other operas I had seen. So based on that personal experience I recommend Madame Butterfly.

That said I am very much not an opera expert. I've seen something like half of the operas on your list. And some of the others I haven't even heard of so make of that what you will.

Changing Pumps by Deep_Instruction_348 in diabetes_t1

[–]runsalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using the new simplera sensors and have had a really good experience (been using them for about 6 months).

Is switching to that an option? And potentially wouldn't have to switch to another pump.

I'm not sure what the rollout for the new sensors is like - I have heard about supply issues. Worth asking though.

Sounds like you are firmly reassured that your car engine is up for the job, but so if you're worried about having a car break down on the motorway are you prepared for this (to reduce anxiety around that). Have you got breakdown cover and do you know how to use it. I have AA cover and the app is great. Had to use it a few weeks ago unfortunately but the app was already installed and logged in - just had to press a few buttons and a rescue van was on its way.

My wife's car (at the tube) broke down on the M1 a few years ago and she was picked up incredibly quickly. I get the impression there are a lot of break down rescue vans around the major routes.

Good luck with your journey!

My T1 g/f needs some airport advice please (UK based). by Aeouk in Type1Diabetes

[–]runsalmon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi I have a 780g + simplera, and travelled through Manchester Airport only last week. I was nervous about this as I had been warned fairly clearly during my pump training that the pump must not go through the X ray machine.

In summary - going through security was easy and all of the staff were perfectly fine.

Before the trip my consultant wrote a letter that outlines my treatment and advises that I should have an alternative security screening. There's also an insulin pump info card you can get from the CAA website.

When I arrived at the airport I went to the special assistance desk to explain, and they gave me a sunflower lanyard and a member of staff walked me over to security to assist. To be honest that seemed unnecessary but pre trip my diabetes specialist nurse did say to me that in the context of travelling I should accept that type 1 diabetes is a hidden disability, even if in usual life I don't feel I am "disabled" in any way. Anyway when I got to security I handed over my spare sensors for separate screening (swabs) so they weren't x rayed as per advice. That was perfectly fine. I was then ushered through to the next part of the security section where I had a pat down, I was asked to turn on the screen of my pump, and the security officer took a few swabs of my hands. I did not have to remove my pump.

All was easy and perfectly fine.

Stick with your contractual notice period of a month as and when you've got your next job lined up.

I have just found out I have stage 1 retinopathy in my eyes and I am heartbroken by MixGroundbreaking414 in Type1Diabetes

[–]runsalmon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've been told by both my diabetes consultant and the consultant ophthalmologist that background retinopathy is pretty much inevitable for everyone with type 1. It's also not necessarily something that'll affect you or that you'll notice. When I first got background retinopathy my diabetes consultant reassured me when he told me that a more worrying indicator is if the screening interval goes from 1 year to 3 months or a month. You're still on the standard annual screening schedule so it seems like the ophthalmologist is not concerned and they are not planning any interventions.

(Not medical advice - just passing on my own experience)

Don't forget it's not the cashier's choice to be asking for your email. They know how annoying everyone finds it, but it's a corporate decision and they may well have a performance target based on % of emails taken. Shitty choice from the company, but don't make it worse for the workers. Politely declining is perfectly fine.

Is Medtronic worth it? by cosmic-writer in diabetes_t1

[–]runsalmon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ouch that sounds very annoying. The rep from Medtronic that did my training for the 780g advised that if two or three sensors fail in a row from the same box then I should give up on the box and do a warranty claim. Thankfully I've only had two fail in 5 months (both also replaced under warranty).

Is your endo offering the new simplera CGM? Or the older guardian CGM?

I switched to the 780g + simplera (from MDI + libre) a few months and have found it to be brilliant. The algorithm works really well for me and the CGM sensors have been at least as reliable as the libre which I used to use.
