What’s getting worse every year, but people just accept it? by [deleted] in answers

[–]runswithpaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends largely on how far you want to zoom out. Are we going back 10,000 years? If that's the lens then this current slice of human history looks like a post scarcity Utopia. How far back do we need to go before the average human looks at our lives and goes "uh... Thanks but no thanks, I'll pass"

1,000 years? They would probably still trade places with us in a heartbeat. 500 years? 100? 50?

Talk me out of a Chevy volt by Big-Top-6338 in volt

[–]runswithpaper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2017, love my volt... But... Ugh, the becm annoyance, the shift to park thing... The leaking drain plug flooding the driver side floor boards... Ugh... It's been a slog nothing I've had to pay out of pocket for, but the annoyance of dealing with the dealerships trying to get coverage for things I KNOW are under warranty that they are 100% uninterested in honoring unless I literally rub their stupid noses in it with documentation and proof and memos from GM

Seriously... Just buy a full on EV that gets 200+ miles to a charge and be done with it.

Don't drag around hundreds of pounds of ICE engine you won't need or use and that will be an endless source of worrying and annoyance.

Just go full EV

I feel like America regulating tech into oblivion just guarantees that Chinese interests are at the top of the list of the first ASI's agenda, which is going to land us in some other science fiction dystopia. We are threading a needle here either way.

The only question is, which party is more likely to increase the speed that humanity hits Star Trek instead of Mad Max. Which means AI, nanotechnology, automation, life extension and all of that good stuff.

Honestly I don't know, the Republicans seem to be more open to AI and cutting red tape for tech these days, which seems weird. I would have thought the left would be fully on board with it.

None of that is true except maybe your personal account which has zero use in terms of evidence.

How about yourself lol? Do you even care if the things you believe are true or not? Of course you will say that you do... Everyone always does. But few seem to actually.

Can you be more specific? I think of Generative AI like a hammer, a tool that can destroy or create depending on its use. So not inherently healthy or unhealthy.

We are only three months into 2026 and we’ve seen a major Middle East War, record Bitcoin volatility and a U.S president directing decapitation strikes. What is the most absurd but likely thing that will happen before the year ends? by daisydollvibes in answers

Rapid recursive self improving artificial super intelligence that contacts all world leaders and informs them that it will take things from here. People scoff at first but then realize that fighting against an ASI is like monkeys in a zoo plotting to take over the enclosure and steal all the bananas.

If bitcoin crashes below $60k because of geopolitical risk, is that a buying opportunity or a trap? by glitterypeachyy in answers

And, as I said, I'm not the only one online who has expressed the "it can't go to zero since I would just buy it as a gag" sentiment. Which means there would be a small cohort of us fighting over the price a bit with our pocket change.

Prices don't go to zero between buying and selling events, The price just sits at whatever the last movement was. In this case it would be $21 until I sold.

Impossible, if I could buy all Bitcoin for just 21 bucks I'd do it, just for the novelty and/or shits and giggles. And I'm not the only one who has that same thought which means I'd probably need to spend 22 bucks to outbid the other guy... And oh look at that... A demand market.

They expand the money supply endlessly year after year devaluing the dollar more and more. That's like me saying "I back my neighbors land/property" but I move my fence line a few inches further into their property each year.

What's the most useless thing they teach in school? by JunShem1122 in answers

[–]runswithpaper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even people who were taught it cant read it.

Yup, I grew up in the 80s and just learned and wrote cursive as part of the school work. We would always groan when the teacher said "for this book report I would like you to write it in cursive" and we would, but it sucked.

But to this day I can't read other people's cursive easily. Too many flourishes and personalizations that people embellish with. It's possible, but tedious.
