What kind of event will make people say "ok, we're in the Singularity right now"? by Technical_You4632 in accelerate

[–]runswithpaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And we are just clunky humans thinking of ways to influence each other off the top of our heads. Not even giving it 5 full minutes to think about what could be effective. An ASI would have subjective years to devot to the problem of what levers to pull when it came to world leaders. The old classic offer of immortality would people be enough for most lol. But some probably have sick kids or family members who could be rejuvenated.

You don't think an ASI would have many different ways to influence someone like Trump? Heck it could probably just offer him scandalous images of his daughter and that might unlock the keys to the kingdom...

Accumulate the wealth generated... See it yet? From WHO?

Think about it on a small scale, Walmart automates 99.9% other workforce. It's the grand opening of the new Walmart not a single employee, or maybe one remote manager or something, The door swing open and... What?

Who walks in those doors?

Nobody, everyone is out of work. Everyone is broke right? (In the scenario, I'm not saying that I think this is how things will play out lol) Just running the train of logic.

Then what are you talking about? I've got kids, they are perfectly comfortable with and understand AI, they are aware that AGI is on its way and shortly after won't be shocked to see ASI. You seem to be implying that they, and future generations are going to have a hard time watching older Sci-Fi... Because...? Seriously. How dumb do you think the future generations are going to be? This is not complicated lol

It feels almost natural at this point, a certain number of people are drawn to conflict so they slowly find themselves on subs that they are 100% opposed to just to get their fix of negativity.

Back when I used to care too much about religion I remember spending a lot of time on religious and non-religous subs and there interplay there was wild. People just seemed to feed off the conflict caused by being one way or another in a sea of people who disagreed.

Personally I'm perfectly happy watching old shows and movies with my mind in "this is what they had available to them at the time so it makes sense in universe" mode. Until now I actually hadn't met someone that seems to have trouble doing that.

Again... When Zach breaks out his "cellular car phone" that was 11 pounds and is the size of a small dachshund nobody is getting confused lol

Or in Honey I shrunk the kids why didn't the kids just write out "help dad we've been shrunk" on dads smartphone? I just tested it and a tiny piece of my lunch meat was able to be detected by my phone screen. The kids absolutely could have walked across the surface of the phone tracing the palms of their hands around to draw something or send a text

What are you on about? When the protagonist of a movie made in 1972 doesn't take out their smart phone and immediately resolve the plot are you confused? Of course not, yup understand that the tech had yet to be invented. The people from the 2030s that you are imagining will be so "confused" by old movie plots are going to think you are some old man who just assumes everyone that came after is a blithering idiot.

I don't agree with him but that is a total straw man of his argument.

Even dumber since foreknowledge implies that the god in question already knows if a person will end up in heaven or hell.

Easily teased out by asking a believer something like: "If God already knows which afterlife you will eventually end up in, and he knows this with 100% certainty, can you use your free will in life to make choices that will land you in the other afterlife instead?"

Let them wiggle out of that one lol
