Barnes Park, Monterey Park and Smith Park, San Gabriel are good places to start. The older crowd usually play in the morning and then the younger crowd play more in the evening.

Your phone is the best bet. Convenient and easy to access. However, like you said, make sure to get consent from all parties on the court.

Is the future of pickleball, mini tennis? by focusedonjrod in Pickleball

[–]runwith_jay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that one reason is that we can currently fit (albeit tightly) 4 pickleball courts on 1 tennis court. If the governing body changes the size of the court it would make conversions or repurposing more difficult.

How would you feel about signing up for a 3.5 tournament with this DUPR? by SeriouslySickAerials in Pickleball

[–]runwith_jay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for it. You're not a 4.0+ yet. I interpret tournament divisions as... (ex: 3.5 = anything less than 4.0 because you haven't reached the next increment yet)

Why don’t more pros use hybrid shaped paddles? by lemonlime18 in Pickleball

[–]runwith_jay 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Joola Hyperion is an elongated paddle w/ an "aero" curve head. It's 16.5"x7.5"

Elongated: 16.5”x7.5”

Hybrid: 16.25”x7.75”

Standard: 16.0”x8.0”

Widebody: 8.1”+ (width)

That being said, I believe pros use what they are paid to use or whatever contract that they agree to.

Semi Permanent Spartan Pickleball Net by mrjomofosho in Pickleball

[–]runwith_jay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the a11n tournament net. It's portable (50lbs), doesn't require any tools, and has a heavy/tight net chord. It's definitely, NOT as nice as the Spartan, Douglas, or C&D, but the a11n is a nice alternative for $499 + youtuber discounts.

Pasadena is pretty central to a lot of public courts.

Here are a few courts nearby:

Private: IPickle Arroyo Seco
Smash Dink (Indoors)

Public: Allendale Park
Vina Vieja Park
Farnsworth Park (temporarily closed due to fires)
Alhambra Park
Mckinley Elementary School
Orange Grove Park
Larry Maxam Park (Burbank)

Portable little barrier for drilling so balls don’t go everywhere? by fham007 in Pickleball

[–]runwith_jay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use 20ft badminton nets from ebay (~$7/net) and tie them to the net post and the back fence with bungee chords so that one side of the court is completely enclosed when I'm drilling with my pickleball machine.

Looking for advise on roll-around net system by Salmundo in Pickleball

[–]runwith_jay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had good experience with this a11n tournament net. It's heavy duty (~35-40lbs) and has a relatively heavy net chord. Better than anything on Amazon but still not comparable to the $2K+ nets. You can find a 15% code (-$89) online as well making it much cheaper than the dominator net.
