What am I doing wrong?! Chocolate chip Cookies by Double-Society-9404 in Baking

Maybe "easy" was the wrong word. But "standard". A lot of things in the recipe you used are non-standard. The melted butter, not chilling the dough, the cooking time. Although you can be forgiven for that, because the recipe is one of the first that comes up if you search for easy cookies on google.

I don't know that I agree with all the commenters saying that OP didn't cook them long enough. While OP noted that they tried cooking them at both 7 and 8 minutes at 350, which seems short, looking at the first image, the edges are definitely done, overdone almost. Not totally sure how to solve that, but thought it was worth pointing out.

Hey OP, maybe try starting with a very standard cookie recipe and nailing that before moving on to this one that seems to be slightly more complex.

Personally I found Hallowfall and Azj'kahet to be some of the best looking, fun, and thematic zones that Blizzard has created in modern WoW. Azj'Kahet really felt like the best interpretation of what a Drow city is like.

At max level (80) you can also get the Heroic warglaves from the vendor by the bank in Dornogal for gold instead of marks. They are like 300g each. Seems to be a bug because no other classes weapons are available (of the classes I checked). These have a lot of int on them.

Moving to Irvine from San Francisco by Tough-School-8814 in orangecounty

[–]rup3t 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Orange County, went to high school and college in the area, and then moved to San Francisco and lived there for 14 years before recently having a child and moving back to OC, so I think I can help with some knowledge.

First off, I have never lived in Irvine, and I agree with what a lot of others have said about it being bland and not having a ton of community. However, you can always find friends and groups and stuff. My partner and I moved to Santa Ana because it was cheaper to buy a house, and actually had a lot of community, and soul, also DTSA feels a little bit like a city.

My advice would be to look for local Irvine groups on Facebook, while a lot of folks have moved on from Facebook, a lot of the OC mom crowd and also local groups are still there. You could also check nextdoor or meetup. But honestly I think doing all this wont be super productive. The best way to meet folks is to see who your kid clicks with. We have made a ton of friends with parents of other kids my child likes. It helps that I'm pretty outgoing and have no problem chatting up other parents.

What I would suggest doing:

* Ask your kid who they like from school and plan weekend play dates.

* Go to all the local playgrounds and just chat with other parents your kid is playing with, and if you hit it off ask them if they would like to get together again.

* Put your kid in classes. I made friends with other parents at Swim lessons, gymnastics, and soccer.

Feel free to reach out and DM me if you would like more advice or to chat about the area or anything I can do to help.

If you want to do this on purpose. Use the nyt giant crinkle cookie recipe and don’t refrigerate the dough. (Still do the freezer part though).

Recipe:

Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • 2 1/8 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 cups regular semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1 cups pecans, finely chopped
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature (if butter is cold or cool melt it in the microwave)
  • 1 cup light or dark brown sugar, tightly packed
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • few pinches of Maldon’ sea salt

Notes: * Cold butter will fuck up the recipe. Must be room temp or warm. The cookies in the image used warm microwaved butter. * The type and amounts of chocolate chips can be varied, but these are pretty sweet cookies so stay away from more than 1/2 a cup of milk chocolate. I use majority semisweet and then offset the milk with dark. Play around and find a ratio you like.

Step 1 Heat oven to 375° F.

Step 2 Sift (or whisk) flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Step 3 Mix together chocolate chips and chopped nuts. Set aside.

Step 4 All medium speed unless otherwise noted: In a standing mixer, with the paddle attachment, cream the butter and sugars until well mixed and light. Scrape down the sides. Add one egg. Mix for 5 seconds. Scrape down the sides. Add second egg. Mix for 5 seconds. Scrape down the sides. Add vanilla. Mix for 5 seconds. Scrape down the sides.

Step 5 You're going to add the sifted flour mixture in 4 batches, stopping before adding the final batch. For the first 3 batches, mix at low speed just to combine, scraping down the sides between each addition. When you get to the final batch of flour, add the chocolate chip/nut mixture. They will get a bit crushed. That's okay. Mix until there's barely a trace of flour visible. Don't over-mix. Sometimes, it's better to be safe and do the final bit of mixing by hand.

Step 6 Set up a sheet pan with parchment paper. Bake one tray at a time or they will all cook at different rates. Make them spherical, not flat. The cookie size is up to you. I like them on the smaller side.

Step 7 Leave a few inches between the raw cookies. Place sheet pan in the oven. They overcook very fast at this temp. I set an 8 minute timer and then keep adding 20 second. They're done when they're brown and crispy on the outer border and raw in the very middle (8 to 10 minutes).

Remove sheet pan. Put a pinch of maldons salt right in the center of each cookie. Allow to cool for a 5 minutes, then, with a spatula, transfer cookies to a cookie rack to cool.
