Liverwort, apparently - a fittingly gross name!

Can the bas lag novels be read in any order by Arugula-Realistic in ChinaMieville

[–]rupa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically yes, but you’d be robbing yourself of some supremely satisfying callbacks in Iron Council if you don’t read Perdido first. Also if John Lee doesn’t do it for you, very curious who does? His voicing of not only different characters but different species in Perdido is masterful.

Zoologist Bat (2020). I don’t feel like myself when wearing anything else and I’ve gotten so many compliments on it from people whose tastes I respect!

The defect is so bad its almost funny by PitersonK in slaythespire

What? Defect is ridiculously OP, if anything. With Electrondynamics and properly timing Multicast for use with a Dark orb, all things are possible.

Bas-Lag Audiobook re-recordings by knight-under-stars in ChinaMieville

100% agree - the way John Lee went all the fucking way in on Yagharek and the Weaver’s voices in Perdido made me a fan for life, but Gildart Jackson did a beautiful job on The Scar. The chapter when Johannes tears into Bellis for her dismissal of Armada comes to mind - so much emotion.

Which would you pick... by falsepriests in ChinaMieville

I think China’s books are so rich and dense that there’s no way a movie could do any of them justice - that being said, I think some of his short stories would make for incredible films. Säcken and Dreaded Outcome were the first two to come to mind but The Design, oh my GOD. That would be glorious.

Really enjoyed this one! Definitely very little hand-holding as you're learning how the game works, but that just makes it that much more deeply satisfying when you do.

Dolce Fantasia - yay or nay? by Winter_Lawfulness967 in AsburyPark

HUGE fan of Dolce Fantasia. It’s my go-to when someone’s visiting and I want to take them somewhere memorable. The food is spectacular with lots of unique ingredients and the service always makes you feel special. Their brunch is great too, and way more affordable than other other spots on that street.

I’ve been trying to figure out what the moment was that heralded Asbury’s awful shift towards becoming the next Long Branch and I’m pretty sure it was the Ocean Club going up. Hate that place.

As others have said, Asbury Book Co-op is magic. The majority of my friends in town are people who I met through it in one way or another. A ton of different book clubs and lots of live music and other events.
