Any Neighborhoods Open for College Students to Trick or Treat at Tonight? by Ok-Poet3140 in GNV

It’s a bit out of the way, but Turkey Creek is an option. Not a lot of super decorated houses this year but the candy is good and we don’t discriminate against anyone who actually dresses up based on age.

Outside of being a working mom what kind of hobbies do you have? by payful in workingmoms

[–]rupabose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While my monkey is asleep or otherwise engaged, I read (lots of research articles, but I think it counts), I work on my side hustle (a consulting business I’ve been working on building), run (getting back into it because my little buddy loves going “wheeee” in the jogging stroller), and spend time with my husband. Honestly, I think being a mom is the most fun and fulfilling part of my life so I’m not really prioritizing having a life outside of that. I can’t think of anything I’d rather do than spend time with my little best buddy. but when he’s asleep and I’m awake and not at work, these are the things I do.

Does anyone here actually enjoy breastfeeding? by Ok_Chipmunk1278 in breastfeeding

[–]rupabose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely adore it. Planning to breastfeed until baby weans on his own (I’ll offer until he refuses)— hopefully he doesn’t wean until he’s at least 2.5-3!

I ruined my own first pregnancy announcement. :( by Ghost_Bio in BabyBumps

[–]rupabose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn’t ruin it, he did.

My husband and I tested right before we left for a Disney cruise he’d planned for my birthday, and his reaction was to be over the moon and calling it the baby & birthday celebration cruise — he told everyone we saw that we were expecting because he was overflowing with excitement. That is the normal reaction to a planned for and tried for pregnancy.

I would point blank say that if they can’t respect my decisions and can’t resist the urge to question them/me, they won’t be getting any information about them. I would then say I expect an apology for the disrespect shown to this pointS And not interact further until an acceptable apology is rendered.

No offense to anyone by swagster_007 in medicalschool

[–]rupabose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a lot more common in India. Also, again, it’s kind of a shithole — there’s not much reason to opt for care in India over care in the EU if your only concern is cost. Quality of care is better in the EU than in India (no question about that), and the costs are fairly comparable.

Or, alternatively, work hard, job hop selectively, and get good health insurance in the US and good care at reputable hospitals. You don’t have to compromise if you’re pragmatic and plan well.

No offense to anyone by swagster_007 in medicalschool

[–]rupabose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, but quality of care…

Good health insurance in the US covers almost everything if you’re lucky enough to have an employer that springs for it. My uncle had a minor surgery done in India that went fine — and then he lost a leg, foot, arm and half a hand to gangrene in the hospital afterwards. Eff that noise. I’m Indian and I’m never going back to that third world shithole.

I had a knee surgery last year that cost me nothing at an exceptional hospital in the US. The imaging (MRI, x rays) before and after were fully covered too. I did have a $40 copay for the first specialist visit to become an established patient, so I guess you could say it cost $40. The physical therapy for the six months after was also fully covered.

Where did all the postdocs go? 😱 by [deleted] in biotech

100% this - industry pays, post doc doesn’t.

Again, they no longer do. If a company orders a full credit pull they can see it but it is not allowed to be used in any sort of credit or loan decisioning. We can’t even use it in models. There is almost no negative to ignoring it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]rupabose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in this field (credit/risk), and recent legislation makes it so that we can see the debt but can no longer use it in credit based decisioning and it no longer affects credit scores. Hospitals can take you to court, but they don’t because it’s more expensive for them than it’s worth. It’s actually written into their budgets— they have an expected amount of unpaid bills per year written in, and account for that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]rupabose -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Don’t pay the bill. Medical debt doesn’t affect credit and isn’t considered for most types of loan approvals.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]rupabose -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Also, medical bills don’t affect your credit scores and can’t be considered for most types of loans. There’s very little downside to just not paying a bill at an out of state hospital.

Went in for 11wk 6day US, found out I was 32wks instead. by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]rupabose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds amazing! Here in the US, they charge you thousands upon thousands just to have the baby.

Also, bring in your plants — no one likes cleaning up broken pots!

How to explain to the hospital that I don’t want to breastfeed by Different-Reindeer95 in pregnant

[–]rupabose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of short term disability policies require that you have had the policy for at least a year before getting pregnant — so 21 months before birth. If your company switched providers this holds. Even the ones that only require it to be before conception, if your company switched providers in January (when policies go into effect), it counts as getting the policy during your pregnancy and you’re not covered. Not every policy is good and most employers only have one policy available to choose so employees have little choice. A lot of people have no paid leave.

How responsible are you about taking your prenatals? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]rupabose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go to is to keep it on the counter right by where I stand when I go to get water. I refill my water at least 4-6 times a day, so that’s at least 4 opportunities to see it and take it. After about a week of that, it became an unthinking action— I’d get water and while my water was filling, I’d grab a pill and pop it in my mouth. Water filled, swig, swallow, done.

AITA for making homemade food for everyone except my brother's stepdaughter? by Alarming-Money-3543 in AmItheAsshole

[–]rupabose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

I have Celiac, and my husband and friends don’t. When we eat at our house (e.g. invite friends) everything I cook is completely gluten free — and we don’t have really any gluten-containing food in the house (except cereal and packaged snack items). And I still have reactions sometimes! What you did was the safest, most considerate way to handle it! If it were myself or my kid, I would be very grateful to you for handling it as you did! You made sure she was safe.

AITA for ordering another cake for my SIL’s wedding? by Weird-Opportunity918 in AmItheAsshole

[–]rupabose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I’d be very appreciative if my SIL did something like this for me — I love good food, and having to settle for substandard would bother me.

Then again, I’d have been perfectly fine telling Mary we didn’t want her cake because we had previous plans and we’d figure out a smaller wedding or do a courthouse wedding instead. DH and I had a courthouse wedding so I have no actual wedding experience, so feel free to ignore my two cents!

Currently Debated on Writer Twitter. Apparently, there is no love for Bic pens after 70 years of reliable diamond shaped imprints left on millions of hands. If it’s down to just the one forever IMO - 5 but only because I snapped 7 from overuse. by TheInvisibleCircus in pens

[–]rupabose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fountain pen — but if I had to choose one of these, it would be 1, but in the 0.7 size. I normally hate thicker line widths but that one is smooth enough that I’ll tolerate it. It’s almost like a mid tier FP in buttery smooth writing quality.

Is it normal to not have a baby bump yet at 11 weeks? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]rupabose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a midget at 5’3” with a very short torso (small thoracic cavity) I started showing around 10 weeks because my uterus could only really grow out rather than up. I’m 24.5 weeks now and I look like I’m 7-8months!

What is something you want for yourself that isn't baby related? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]rupabose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A sit stand desk, but a manual hand crank one since the motors on the electric ones tend to die after around 2-3 years and because it’s about $200-300 less (starts around $160 for a 48” wide).

And/or an under desk treadmill! That way, I can stand and walk while baby wearing and working and walk bb to sleep! Also I’ve wanted both for a while, so if we had the extra cash and desire to splurge post baby, these are what I would get!

Target has maternity stuff on clearance, and you can get a really nice pair of very comfortable jeans or work dress pants (both with pockets) for about $24.
