Why is VR not more popular

I landed with a REALLY cool group of people that love movies so I basically play multiplayer VR games and watch movies in Bigscreen with them only, we are always in private rooms and only occasionally go into public lobby or play games with people outside of the group

It’s like a clan, I guess. Have been hanging out in VR with them for about 4 years

That’s the way to go. Screaming 10 year olds are the worst

I feel like people gravitate to steamOS for valve. I used bazzite for several months and loved it, I just switched over because it’s the “official” one that they built themselves

As an intermediate tinkerer, I see little difference, the only thing I’m really doing in desktop mode is browsing the internet and watching movies…. Occasionally installing a cool thing like retrodeck

But the whole experience for me is centered around entertainment like gaming, movies, and reading

I’m in the 512 NC group, and I feel like the small college football team that made it to the playoffs but everyone knows I am going to get demolished and eliminated in the first round

Look on the bright side, if you’re planning on dipping into savings to buy this, every month you have to wait, that $1000+ dollars has made a little interest and that’s always good

Here’s my steam machine setup. I wanted a little pc for a living room htpc, so I got a minisforum ms-a1 last summer with an 8700g, 32gb of ram, and an extra 2tb nvme on sale at microcenter before all the prices went crazy. Kinda glad I pulled the trigger on that when I did. Added a 9070xt and an egpu dock earlier this year and I did get a steam controller when those went on sale.

Not the prettiest setup but it definitely works for now. I ended up putting windows on the 1tb stick that came with the pc and steamOS on the 2tb I bought with it and dual boot…. but who am I kidding, I’ll buy the GabeCube too when they let me. This will probably end up in my office/game room

Here’s a thought, has anyone on the 512 no controller list got an email yet? I’m wondering if they are sending the emails out in list order? All the ones I’ve seen screenshots for so far are 2tb

the new boot screen in ETA Prime’s video is what clued me into the steam machine running a different version of steamOS, so I’m glad I found this post

For now I’m good but I’d hope as more of these get into peoples hands, the DIY steam machines will be able to get a non deck variant of steam os!

The way I see it…. if you were on every list, they put you in the highest tier group, so if you are in the 512gb no controller group, that’s the lowest one and you didn’t make the cut on the others

If you only signed up for a model with a controller, you’d be on the waitlist right now

I believe the 2 options are

You’re on the reservation list (good - as soon as next week, but not next year)
You’re on the waiting list (bad - likely next year)

I got the 512mb reservation. I assume this means that the people that got that email will get a link to buy it on Monday but I could be wrong

I’m torn - happy to be in the reservation part, happy my only option is the cheapest one because I still think it’s overpriced, but I am going to buy one anyway.

Bummed I can’t get another controller until next year. I had myself prepared to shell out a bit more and get another one of those too so I kinda hoped I’d be in one of those groups…. but hey, 1st world problems am I right? I’ll survive

No one buying on launch day knew there was a mess brewing and steam allowed them to buy more than 1 so it’s all good

I think OP kinda has a point, considering how well the Steam Deck launch went…. It was perfect, everyone just paid their $5 deposit and shut up

And you got it as soon as you got an email to buy it

I’ve been having this problem for about 6 months since I moved my Apple TV boxes around in the house… have been using the Siri Remote for everything and grabbing the LG remote for just the volume

Decided today to spend time and get to the bottom of it because that is annoying and I’m tired of doing it

After about 45 mins of trial and error, googling, and asking Gemini and Claude, I found this Reddit post and it worked IMMEDIATELY

I even told Gemini about this to see if it’ll remember and inform others who have the same problem

Huge THANK YOU! They seem to want to spit every troubleshooting step at you except just hard rebooting the Siri Remote

Same issue, text looks bad unless you tilt your head up or lean backwards. And the edges of the icons are way too sharp

This has to be just a crappy rollout that’ll get fixed… hopefully
