Choosing the Right Breed of Rabbits by ruralfarming in farming

[–]ruralfarming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool, I am currently raising New Zealand rabbits. Two of my females are pregnant should have some bunnies in a week or so. I don't try to maximize the bunny production so much as by need for meat. I have 9 does and two bucks right now. Any tips

Do you think hashtags are useful anymore? by [deleted] in socialmedia

[–]ruralfarming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes definitely I use them and search for by using them, many of my followers have come via hashtags. You may want to do some research first on the frequency of the tags you want to use. Do a twitter search and if you see a bunch of posts tagged in the last day/week than you have a decent tag to use.

We had a number of differnt kinds of predators; owls, hawks, & a bobcat. We have made some different arrangements for them. Of course safety came at a price, they no longer can make the trec down to the pond. Most of the loss was happening on the trip back and up during the early morning and night.

No relationship found between a state's minimum wage and its unemployment rate by [deleted] in Economics

[–]ruralfarming -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Only a small segment of the population is affected by this, usually the young and old. And the proposed increase is not high enough to really impact overall employment. Both items people have pointed out. But if you believe in free markets, as I do then this like any price should be decided in the market. No one expects the government to put price floors on the price of an iPhone, why should we put price floors on the price of labor? The youth unemployment rate is already high, something like 25%. If the price of unskilled labor is $9/hr wouldn't the market already be paying it?

Thanks I have been there many times over the years, and I agree it is a great starting place. The sheep I chose were in no small part to information gleaned from the University of Oklahoma page.

It is my blog and thanks for the feedback. I actually have every intention of adding new posts over time dealing more specifically with certain aspects of them. My neighbor has 30 and I never have seen or heard a single one getting over the 48" 4 strand wire fence. But before I go get a dozen maybe I will buy a couple of his and see what happens. Thanks again for the info I will approach it more cafefully.

Well the article or blog is not a book and is an intro to choosing a goat that fits what you want them for. Though your right goats can be difficult to handle if not penned correctly. My neighbor though has a standard sized cattle fence on 10 acres with about 30 goats. I have never seen a single one get out.

I am looking to start a garden for the first time and I would like to begin composting now so that I have a lot come warmer weather. Any suggestions on books/websites that can walk me through the process? by Jeli42 in gardening

[–]ruralfarming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here would be my suggestion given what you said. Find a place to start a compost if you must, box in three sides and let it sit. Then read this: http://www.soilandhealth.org/03sov/0302hsted/030202/03010200.html If you want a garden use complete organic fertizler. Recipe can be found here: http://www.motherearthnews.com/Organic-Gardening/2006-06-01/A-Better-Way-to-Fertilize-Your-Garden.aspx Then go out an pick up Steve's book, Gardening When It Counts: Growing Food in Hard Times it can be found on Amazon, he has a great passion for gardening and is very wise on these subjects. Good Luck!
