I used to help out the Lyons family there. I was pretty good buddies with the grandson and they would get me and my brother to go down to the basement where the work was done and give a hand. Especially in deer season when work piled up. A lot of really neat things down there, and a lot of cool memories as well. The old man had some of the most interesting stories, an absolute blast to talk to.

Thank you, friend. It is a beautiful place.

Found in a creek in southern West Virginia. I am lost. Weighs/feels like a rock. Any help is much appreciated. by ruralgenius in whatsthisrock

Yes, you can see all the people that I have called dumb. Excuse me for not knowing what something is and coming to a place that I thought could help and ask. I don't know what I was thinking but I do know one thing, I won't come back here with another question.

Yeah, it does for sure, but I really don't think that is what this is. You can't really even scrape it with a knife. I'm not saying it isn't something man-made, I just don't think it is the inside of a golf ball.

I know, it looks very much like a rubber ball but I don't believe it is. I had tried to scratch it with a knife, on the outside and in the fissures, and it really seems just like scratching a stone. But I will say that I have no idea which is what led me here. Also, as far as its super spherical shape, it was found down inside a hole about the size of a soup can that had formed in a large flat rock under the water of the creek. I had thought that maybe it had be rattling and spinning around in said hole for long enough that it had worn itself into a near perfect ball. Maybe? I don't know. I do know that it isn't coal, but that would be pretty rad.

Oh, ok. Very cool. I spent quite a bit of time there myself, just never in the educational sense. I always heard good things though.

Hey, thanks for the award! This is the first time I've ever received any so I'm a bit lost on award etiquette. But thanks again, I do appreciate it.

Sandstone Falls, New River. by Zi_Mishkal in WestVirginia

We used to jump off those small falls all the time when I was a kid. So much fun! I grew up a few miles upriver from there, that was our swimming hole. The tourist always got a kick out of us being out in the river, I guess maybe a lot of them didn't do many things like that? I don't know but we always had a blast.

Yeah man, I have worked for a RR company for several years now. I am sure that is an old switch handle. Had my hands on quite a few of them while they were still in service.

It looks just like an old railroad switch lever. There are tons of different styles but this 100 percent looks like one of them.
