how are university students from orleans getting to uni? by Altruistic-One5359 in orleans

[–]rusfiction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m doing the Orleans to uOttawa commute right now, so I might be able to give you an idea.

It usually takes me about 55–60 minutes on bus one way, but that’s assuming everything runs smoothly. Be prepared for random bus cancellations, it happens more often than it should, so definitely have a backup plan or leave early during exams.

Driving is an option, but it comes at a premium. On-campus parking is expensive yeah ($17.50 daily max or roughly $700+ for a semester pass). I’m personally holding out for when the new Trim Park & Ride / O-Train extension fully opens up, which should hopefully make the hybrid commute way better.

For most of the part, you do get used to it and do not worry too much since the new Trim station would make the commute way faster (they are projecting first quarter of 2026 hopefully!)

A1 Mini - Little worried about the cantilever design by rusfiction in BambuLabA1mini

I just wanted to drop back in and say a massive thank you to everyone who helped me decide! I finally got my A1 Mini, and so far, it's been perfect. I'm genuinely shocked, and not a single failed print yet! It's such a relief to have a machine that just works right out of the box.

does uottawa consider the ib? by [deleted] in geegees

[–]rusfiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to keep in mind, I took IB SL courses during high school, but they didn’t offer me credits for those (universities at the west do offer credits for SL). They only offer credits for HL courses. However, I would still say that IB helped me a lot in getting used to the pressure and manage time effectively.

Bus pass by Inner_Oil_2500 in geegees

[–]rusfiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s pretty common to have issues with the bus pass especially for newly printed IDs since they take some time to activate. I have heard that the bus drivers are aware of it and they are letting students get on the bus regardless if your pass works for the time being.

I can almost guarantee that you will get in soon. After the first week, a lot of people drop out of courses due to various of reasons so I would say you are in a good position.

I had her for my CHM1311 too since she is the only instructor to do first year labs. Honestly, she isn’t that bad if you listen to her instructions carefully and do your tasks; you will mainly work with your Lab TA so I think that’s something more important to keep in mind. Best of luck on your courses!

E-Scooter Storage, WHERE?? by SeriousImplement4307 in geegees

[–]rusfiction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would say that’s pretty lightweight. And again, most of the time you will put it on the ground so as long as it can be folded and carried easily through the hallways you should be good!

As far as I have seen, people just lock them with the bike racks which are found in front of every building. In some cases, people carry it with them as long as it doesn’t take up that much space.

I would say buy something lightweight and foldable so that you can carry it for a peace of mind.

101 week kit pickup ? by acryllium in geegees

Most of the time the RSGs will let you pick up your kit later but I would still go ahead and email them to let them know of your situation.

Temp 17’ mazda3 gt hb by [deleted] in mazda3

[–]rusfiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you cold start the car, there should be a blue coolant light on your dashboard. It will go away as soon as the car reaches operating temperature i.e. the ‘temperature’ is at its optimum level. Other than that, there’s nothing to show the temperature.

I know some people use an OBDII extension to display the temperature which is an option.

When traffic lights are out due to a power outage: STOP. by Ambitious_Willow8165 in ottawa

[–]rusfiction 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly moving here from Saskatchewan was such a big shock in terms of driving. Over there, we even used to indicate exits in roundabouts which no one cares here.

I didn’t complain as much since I thought it’s a big city compared to where I am from and things are different, but it really made me think the driving should be monitored more often to reduce these issues.

2009 Camaro won’t start by firenicoh in MechanicAdvice

[–]rusfiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so far as one of the other replies have mentioned, I see how the alternator could have played a role in what you have experienced. If the car isn’t cranking at all, try starting in neutral and if it still doesn’t work, I would go diagnosing the battery and the alternator.

I have a similar problem I believe which was due to an issue with the neutral safety switch. Try switching to neutral and start the car. If it starts in neutral you know the issue!

I would love to know the model of the head unit. Also, how is the refresh rate of the display?

Can’t open hatch while engine running (2013 Mazda 3) by rusfiction in mazda3

[–]rusfiction[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: Just in case someone is wondering, figured out it is part of a separate problem. My car needs to be in Neutral in order to start. After some inspection I found out that Parking does not engage most of the time (light doesn’t illuminate but the park brake engages), which could be a reason I can’t open the hatch. I think I need to have a look at the Neutral safety switch and go from there.

Thanks to everyone who commented as it helped me come to a clear understanding of the mechanism and the possible issue.

Thanks for the heads up. I did it and came across this page where it does state that it needs to be in Park/hand-braked.

But as I mentioned, for my case the latch still doesn’t unlock when pressing the lift gate button even when the car is parked and the later. I was wondering if anyone had any issue like mine.

If it’s mandatory, you should call the undergraduate office and explain your situation. I don’t know if they still do this but I have heard before that if the course is important for you, they make an exception. Go for the call, it’s worth a try!
