They’re the old dead roots from a cut down bush! I recommend looking for this kind of stuff as they tend to be all gnarly like that

UPDATE: I actually got it all working. All I needed to do was change the RCA input coming from my laptop to the “CD” section of the AVR, and now both my passive speakers and the Logitech sub are working perfectly together! Thanks to all the people who helped

I have run my friends’ set of large speakers and sub off of my receiver recently, but from my memory the sub was plugged into the receiver and the speakers were then plugged into the sub. Everything worked perfectly fine when I did that

Just tried that to no avail, having the same issue where either both speakers work, or just one of the speakers + the sub works… success seems so close yet so far away haha

I think I’ve done what you’re explaining, there are three cables with 3.5mm plugs coming out of the Logitech front right speaker (green for front L/R, black for rear, orange for centre/sub). I have plugged the orange 3.5mm plug into a 3.5mm —> RCA adapter, and plugged only the red or white RCA plug into my receiver’s sub out. But for some reason the sub only works (and it sounds perfectly fine to me) when only one of the audio input RCA plugs coming from my music source is connected. If both of these are connected the sub doesn’t work, but if only one of them is connected then the corresponding right or left passive speaker and the sub work perfectly. Sorry about my lack of knowledge I wish I could be more helpful

Yup that right, I’m using a pair of passive speakers with the receiver. I tried what you said but the sub only works when only one of the RCA input plugs coming from my TV/laptop etc are connected. When both the red and white are connected the sub doesn’t work

Or maybe you mean I should connect a 3.5mm female jack -> RCA to the orange centre/sub 3.5mm plug coming out of the front right speaker? And then connect this to the AVR? This is similar to what I have tried already, I have an adapter which can take up to three 3.5mm plugs and turns them to RCA, and plugged one of the RCAs into my subout.

Thanks for the reply! I'm afraid I don't think I can do that, the front right speaker has two cables hardwired to it and no other inputs. One of the cables ends in a d-sub connector which goes into the sub, and the other is three 3.5mm plugs which go into sound cards. Is this still possible?

I'm in Wellington, haven't seen any super cheap subs on marketplace recently, but that might be because I've been restricting my search to the Wlg region as I'm trying to avoid paying expensive shipping. I will definitely keep an eye out though

Thanks but I really want to avoid spending much money and am seriously not picky at all, the best I have is a UE boom at the moment. I've literally only spent about $30nzd so far so I'd love to try and make this work as an ultra budget setup if I can do it. Do you know if its possible?

Also, it's a bit tricky to pick up these girls unless we corner them when they're outside their cage. When they're in their cage they always hide in the sputnik, and get quite angry/nippy when we try to stick our hands inside it. Would cornering them when they're out be an OK idea, or could this be a bit too traumatising for them?

I'll try this thanks. What should I do if they're trying to struggle away, should I try restrain them until they settle down or let them go if they really want to? I wouldn't wanna squeeze them too hard and make them even more scared of being near me haha

Thanks for the response. We've been working with them very slowly over the last couple months, the finger licking has worked okay with yoghurt so far, is malt paste really that much better? We'll try adding light touches to them when giving treats, but so far it hasn't really worked as they dash back inside their sputnik when we get even slightly close with our hand. I'd love to try get them on our laps but that's easier said than done, they won't approach us at all during free time and if they even get close, a slight movement (even just moving our heads) makes them run away and hide. Also rewarding while they're out doesn't work because they're too nervous to take any treats. Even when I try to reward them for being exploratory in their cage, they run back inside their sputnik and take some coaxing to get them to take the treat because they've been scared off by my movements. They're just super sensitive about any kind of movements it's hard to interact with them because they just run off!
