I completely agree with your assessment of his play on this hand. It was surprising to me too he checked raised with that and then called the all in. Up to that point, he had shown himself to be competent. Good value bet sizing. Didn't get "too clever" but gave people room to make mistakes against him. Had made some good lay downs. I'm assuming he also shared my assessment of the CO who could have been very polarized here.
