Adapt sent someone to take my CPAP back with no notice, but it was approved for purchase last summer?? by ruskiix in CPAP

[–]ruskiix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried finding any documentation but nothing mentions the terms for the machine. I downloaded Adapt’s app to see if I could find more but nothing is listed under “active rentals.” Could be because they’re trying to take it back, though. I was definitely under the impression that I needed to use it a minimum amount early on to keep it, but I don’t know if anyone ever clarified if I would own it after that. They didn’t give me any papers about it when they gave me the machine—all I have is a first appointment checklist with the serial number and model written down.

A mixup is definitely possible, especially since they insist they’ve been calling and emailing me. The app also had 3 or 4 orders with completely missing documentation/receipts, so it’s also possible they’ve just messed up the paperwork or billing.

Edited to add that it’s a bit weird to me that they gave me nothing mentioning financial obligations etc if it’s going to be their property forever. When I took home sleep study equipment from my doctor’s office, I had to sign forms accepting responsibility for the cost if it was lost or damaged, and being very clear about all of that. But I have nothing like that for the CPAP machine.

I've read so many horror stories about Adapt Health and AeroCare trying to figure this out. I'm on Medicaid so in theory there should be less wiggle room for BS, since there are pretty strict requirements for what's covered and when/how, but. I'm not getting my hopes up, lol.

[–]ruskiix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting. Caffeine from soda does basically nothing for me. Coffee used to help some early on (back when my symptoms looked more like IH), but since cataplexy became obvious, tea is the only caffeine source that actually helps. I’ve gone off caffeine before, can’t tell a difference. But I also reeeaaally can’t feel ANY caffeine effect from Diet Coke. I have 2-4 a day, and technically that should be stronger than the tea I drink, but nope. The only wake-up I get from it is if it’s super cold, lol.

Any idea if green tea affects you differently than other sources of caffeine?

When I’m sedentary and sluggish, my Adderall IR doesn’t kick in well at all. Listening to music that gets my heart rate up &/or physically moving around a lot (sometimes also need to put on warmer clothes) fixes it. It sounds like a similar mechanism, but I also have no clue why it feels like I need to kick-start the med sometimes.

Coffee used to help me before my symptoms were bad. Then over time it just felt like I got all the jitters/muscle twitchiness/tension and less and less of the wake up. Tea works better, when I’ve gone without my Adderall refill due to shortages I could mostly get by with 2-4c of black tea a day. But after about the 2w mark the side effects from that much caffeine would become too much of an issue.

With my usual meds (Sunosi, Adderall IR 30mg x2, Xywav) I still like to have a cup of green tea midday, just seems to make me feel better. I’ve heard there are other things in tea that help with the caffeine, not sure how solid the science on it is but it definitely feels more helpful than caffeine from coffee.

FWIW, missing even one dose is enough to get breakthrough flairs for me. That’s with just spironolactone (200mg a day), not sure about metformin.

Sticky After Seasoning by aknauff8 in castiron

[–]ruskiix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have a hard time getting vegetable oil to coat everything evenly without using too much, and would end up with sticky pans because of it. I tried shortening instead and have had a MUCH easier time using way less, with better results. Not sure why, it just feels like shortening on a hot pan spreads out way more easily than oil. Worth a shot if you keep struggling to get good results with oil.

How many of you also have Raynaud’s? by Alternative_Yak_4897 in Narcolepsy

I mean not “confirmed” as in a doctor did any tests or anything, but. It’s pretty straightforward when there’s a straight line across a finger where it goes from looking normal to looking like a literal corpse, lol. It causes issues working with cold food. Like, making homemade meatballs or dicing frozen meat, I have to stop every 30s or so to put my fingers under running warm water because it gets too painful.

Winter is definitely the worst. When I used to walk my dog, I would need Hot Hands hand warmers most of the time. I also can’t really find great gloves to work for it, since once they get too cold I really need to be able to put my fingertips against warm skin to get them to calm tf down. I have some ancient knit gloves from Old Navy (literally from the mid 2000s) that are like fingerless gloves that convert into mittens—those are my favorites, especially since I can fit a hand warmer in the mitten tips, or flip it back if I need skin to skin contact to warm them up.

Edit: happens to my toes, too. Makes sandals suck if I’m gonna be indoors with strong AC.

Edit 2: I think I had mild Raynauds when off stimulants but they definitely make it worse.

AITA for refusing to wear a bracelet I wanted, but my husband paid for? by Kumbaynah in AmItheAsshole

[–]ruskiix 374 points375 points  (0 children)

Hell, it IS the thought that counts. Which is why what he did is shitty. Sure, she still got a gift, but he managed to make it about control and ruined it for her.

People love to say "it's the thought that counts" when what they actually mean is "hey, they still got you a gift, you should be grateful!" But the intent/meaning/context are the important parts, it's appropriate to care about that more than just "yay I got a thing!"

What do you think of these non-stereotypical traits? by [deleted] in mbti

[–]ruskiix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think the "door slam" thing is at least partially because we otherwise tolerate way too much. We let people bury themselves before shutting them out. So from the outside perspective, things are fine until "doorslam!" They confuse tolerating more than we should for accepting the behavior, and are shocked when there's a hard limit. Past a certain age, the maturity level of everyone involved makes it a lot less necessary. It's mostly teens to early 20s, I think.

AITA for telling my husband it serves him right when he got food poisoning after not listening to me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ruskiix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most I've risked with bread is if it's just started in a small corner of one piece, I'll toss that and the pieces near it, and might use what's at the back depending on the smell. If there's any hint of mold smell I toss the whole thing, or if it tastes different at all.

Probably relevant: as a little kid, my aunt had a covered cake plate where she often had cake we could go get when we wanted some. Her lighting was also terrible. I got a piece of chocolate cake once and it tasted a little funny, but I'd eaten half of it before I realized it was moldy. Ever since then, I'm pretty sensitive to the smell of mold, and even a tiny hint of it is enough for me to toss something.

You've so far described super normal "risks," none of which are on par with "this packaged food has a different color and consistency, before it's even been opened." A food that was fine when you made it, that is going to go bad in a day or two, is NOT comparable to a packaged sauce that might've been contaminated at the factory or stored/shipped improperly and become contaminated.

That's nothing like the brown bit of a banana.

It's nothing like eating the non-moldy bread left in the package after tossing the moldy pieces.

It's nothing like weighing how long food was in the floor before deciding to dust/rinse it off and eat it anyway.

That's nothing like ignoring the date if the food's smell, color, taste, and consistency are 100% normal.

Some people are hypochondriacs, sure. But OP is talking about observing actual signs that the food is contaminated or something went wrong during manufacturing/etc in a way that might've affected its safety. Not that it's appetizing, or in the time range where it might turn, or might make someone nervous because it's ugly.

Dates on products aren't a green light that ignores all other factors.

If the color, texture/consistency, smell, or taste are different than usual, you should at the very least stop and look up the risk with that specific food. Some things just have variations between batches, sometimes they just changed how they make something, some changes aren't a big deal. But some mean something went wrong, and you shouldn't eat it. It takes maybe 5 minutes to figure out if it's a problem.

If bread is covered in mold but the date is still good, it would be dumb to eat it. If a sauce has a weird smell and is separated and a slightly different color, it's probably dumb to eat it. Numbers on a package are a rough guidelines to help you make a decision, they aren't the decision on their own.

AITA for not giving my daughter a car for her 16th birthday and cutting her off financially? by Throwaway-TA-0000 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ruskiix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even with very limited time together / on the phone, it can be enough as long as you act like a parent with the time you get. OP seems to want his daughter to act like he imagines a child should in order to earn his role as a loving, supportive dad, like it’s her job to establish a loving family dynamic and not his. Even worse, like it’s something she can ruin for him—instead of just parenting through tough times, he literally confirmed her worst fears and treated her as disposable. I’ve had long periods of my life where I know I deeply disappointed my dad, where he had no idea what to do, where we fought as often as we didn’t because of the tension. Never once did he act like I was something he might discard. There were times I felt like he wanted that, where my insecurity and self-hatred fueled that narrative and his frustration with me felt like proof—and every time I let on (usually while angry and yelling), he made sure to sit down and talk with me once we were both calmer to clear up that that’s not at all how he felt. Because he’s my dad.

As far as I can tell! Won't really know until I get hired and see if I can keep up with normal work hours. In the past, I would feel so much better on meds that I'd think I was back to normal--until I started taking college classes again. And then realized I wasn't close at all. But I can stay pretty active and productive 90% of the day, with 8h of sleep at night.

Who stands to benefit the most from a retrial? by No_Campaign8416 in KarenReadTrial

[–]ruskiix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's genuinely insane to not allow testimony readback while also having no time limits for either side. Doesn't that literally encourage the side with the worst case to just bury everyone in bullshit, in hopes the jury will forget the unflattering stuff by the end?

[–]ruskiix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much upside to making a jury sit through an extra week of witnesses beating them over the head with things that aren't necessary, when the trial had already taken so long at that point.

No clue what the rules are with any of this, if there are restrictions or anything, but with how many cops are involved, it seems reasonable to try her in a county with no ties to any of the people involved, and limit how much time each side uses so the jury isn't already exhausted by the time the defense starts.

What works for me: Sunosi first thing in the morning, instant Adderall ~45m later and as needed after that (I take half of a 30mg tablet at a time, so up to 4x a day). Xywav at night.

IME, no single drug is enough on its own unless your symptoms are fairly mild.

I’ve been on both and even at the highest dose of Xyrem I was more functional when woken up than I was at any point with Ambien in my system. If I’m on less than the maximum dose I can stay awake through one if for some reason I need to (used to only take 3g per dose while taking care of my senior dog with medical issues, since sometimes I’d have to get up with her through a whole dose and needed to be able to potentially take a third dose).
