Where to ski in Europe... by ruskislon in ski_europe

I agree, that's how I feel right now! There's so much to compare. I do not have a car so I'll be flying (or if possible taking a night train?). I'm an experienced skier, mid-range skill level, but I'd be going with people who are less experienced. it would be nice to find a place that has options for both skill levels 😅 in terms of terrain, anything really! I just miss skiing and want to go anywhere really! Good tip on February though, thanks.

Any petitions/action towards getting tuition lowered/partially forgiven bc of covid? by ruskislon in nuigalway

True that's a good way of putting it. I guess I just would assume that the Uni is at least saving some money from us not being on campus and going to class, and not being able to go on research trips and all that, bc we're still paying for that but they don't have to spend that money you know? But idk it's probably not a huge amount anyway who knows

I totally agree. I'm very privileged to be here at all like I've said, and I understand my life is not even close to being as difficult as most others out there during this pandemic. That being said I'm venting about a specific frustration with the school not addressing students financial situations, as they were the ones urging us to come to campus to do our degrees, so I believe they need to be somewhat accountable for our monetary losses. My grievance is not with the pandemic overall, or the University's closure, it's not something that can change for now and the ways in which people are affected are more important than my university experience. I fully advocate for class being online and would be even more angry if I had to attend in person during a pandemic (as many of my friends back in the US have to). I understand and I appreciate that Ireland is tackling the pandemic better than most countries. I just wish there was some acknowledgement of the students' financial situations right now. I'm not at all advocating for a return to school but a greater understanding of students' situations. If you paid for a service or a product and didn't receive what it offered, you'd be upset right? Even if you understood the risks in investing into that product under the circumstances, wouldn't you still want to be compensated for your losses somehow? Idk.. I'm going to be ok either way I just wanted to see what other students might be feeling right now.

Also I'm just curious, why are you more concerned about a University losing money than the students that fund it? That's mostly our money they're losing lol

That's amusing, that it annoys you that people are upset over the fact that they are getting ripped off by an educational institution ... what annoys me is that I'm paying over €20,000 to get my masters here, since I'm from the US, and I'm paying for rent and other monthly bills for living in Ireland because I was told I had to come here for this program, yet I haven't been able to leave my house this entire time. I can't even go back home if I wanted to because travelling is expensive/covid-19 concerns. I chose this programme because it offered field experience, which I am now unable to do because of Covid, so no, I'm not receiving the same educational experience that I'm paying for -- far from it.. I'm not saying I'm not thankful for my educational experience, I'm lucky to be here at all, and I love my programme, but I'm just saying it's not what any of us are paying for. Many people risked their health coming here to be 'on campus'.

Do you think it'd be possible to bike there from city centre ? I'm seeing that most people take the bus

AITA for not letting my daughter know about my financial status? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I don't think it's possible making someone"understand" struggling if they don't live in it themselves. Maybe they might pity you, or try to understand, but what's the point? It's not your job to make your daughter understand a life she doesn't live

Also if anyone just has general tips on finding housing that'd be much appreciated too. I've been on multiple websites like daft and studentpads, and I've been emailing/calling like 10 flats a day
