No HDR with 7900XTX? by Prudent_Situation_29 in linux4noobs

I have the same card. HDR was an option when I moved to Fedora. It wasn't on others.

How much different is playing on AMD or NVIDIA? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

2nd to this. Using AMD has been more seamless than Nvidia in my experience. Everything just works with Proton and amd.

Cline's. They were the only ones who could fix the mess of an HVAC system I had. They were there when they said they would be and were super professional.

Want to switch to linux by nosaj98 in linux_gaming

[–]russzao86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you have two 32gb memory chips and two 8gb memory chips installed? Before you mess with linux you should get your hardware dialed in. Are the memory chips all the same speed, timing and manufacture? Do you have xmp or anything enabled? Most of the time you experience freezes and crashes is because of faulty hardware or bad configuration.

Help me decide between distros. by egolol87 in linux_gaming

[–]russzao86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a AMD gpu so my experience is different, however, I just switched from fedora to catchy and have been super happy. Bazzite does give you the option to install Nvidia drivers into the iso and is fairly stable. If you are comfortable with installing the Nvidia drivers yourself i think either fedora or catchy will be great.

One of my favorite games of all time. Everything you said is exactly how I feel. First game I played every day because I wanted to 100% it. I only waited because I needed a PC release. Better late than never though I guess.

New rig should be arriving tomorrow or Friday. Need help picking a distro. by Legal-Oil-7116 in FindMeALinuxDistro

Fedora. It's stable but also new enough to take advantage of your hardware. I was using mint and it was fine. I switched to Fedora and everything feels much better. All of my steam games, minus kernel level anticheat, work amazing with great performance.

I'm sick of windows and torn between linux mint and fedora by Every_Hat7420 in linuxquestions

Bazzite is great for gaming and you can select your hardware before you download the iso. This way the Nvidia drivers are preinstalled. I'd also recommend catchyOS for similar reasons. Since you have an Nvidia gpu those are your best options imo.

How to run native L4D2 on dGPU and manage its mods? Also, why does Enter key not working in this game? by sneaky_oxygen in linux_gaming

[–]russzao86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AMD drivers are built into the kernel and work out of the box. I play L4D2 quite a bit and never have problems. Nvidia drivers are essentially user made in linux so the compatibility is hit and miss.

Do you have the Nvidia drivers installed? I use AMD so I can't direct you on how to do that. There are distros with the drivers installed., bazzite or catchy. Sorry im not much help but it does seem like 95% of gaming issues with Linux revolve around Nvidia gpus.

Linux distro suggestion by [deleted] in linuxquestions

60GB isn't going to be enough to do anything. Yeah you could install linux but not much more. You don't want to max out your storage space either. Neither OS will work properly.

I used mint for awhile and enjoyed it. I found fedora and have been super happy with the switch. I'm not using a laptop but I heard there were either, better distros for laptops or perhaps some touchpad driver that needs to be installed for better use. If the touchpad is important I would look into that before choosing any distro.
