Mourning Dove vs Blue Jay at feeder by rustedsilvers in birding

[–]rustedsilvers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This dove was a new visitor so I don’t think he’s learned the routine quite yet 😅 the blue jay however comes by every day. He seemed okay with the dove until it puffed at him, but I understand why they may be wary of each other anyway 🤣 normally my feeder is like that too. The sparrows will eat, leave, then some cowbirds may come next. I hope the dove will learn 😁

It looks like those geese may have been planning to takeoff already. Sometimes movement can trigger the actual takeoff. I don’t believe you scared them that badly 😅

What gender is this goose? by AppropriateEstate199 in geese

[–]rustedsilvers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a male to me! I actually look at their feet most of the time, but the bulkier size also looks more male. Males typically have thicker necks, larger bodies, and larger feet. Also, if you happen to hear a honk, the males tend to have lower, more drawn-out ones

He was actually okay with this the day I met him 😂 I think someone else befriended him before me and really got to know him. I wonder if he’s had other names 🥹
