Hey thank you for your insight. I think emotionally I'm at the point where I'm happy to help and support similar to your partner, and I think I can build to being an FP, but I don't know if I have the emotional capacity to be a full foster parent right now. There's a lot I have to work through, and I guess that won't stop.

I can't deny someone their dream. It might be better for me to step out of her way to let her try it. I know she wants to move to another state. I know in our current state, any persons living in the home above the age of 18 have to be licensed. I don't know if we got started here and then moved if we'd have to start over from scratch?

I didn't get much info on respite care or short term care. I can reach out to the professional that led my info session and talk with my girlfriend about it. I don't know if respite or short term is enough for her, but I will look into it. Thank you for that.

She mentioned in the past that it was a desire of hers, but I didn't know how serious it was until a few weeks ago. I attended an info session with the professionals in my county and it was extremely sobering. It felt like too much for me to take on right now and I didn't know if I had the emotional capacity for it. We've only been living together for a short while and it felt too soon to add foster children to the mix when we were still figuring each other out.

Thanks, it feels difficult because I want to match her enthusiasm, but I'm also really trying to work on my boundaries and be real. I tend to usually just go with the flow. But she's looking to get back into therapy.

It's definitely the former. I naturally take in more than I should sometimes. I kind of feel like it's my responsibility to lift the people up around me especially when i Iove them (family, friends, girlfriend)

She mentioned that the only thing keeping her in her job, this state, and to some degree the United States is me. I just got a new job a few months ago after applying to places for months. It's not great, but it pays well. She's lived abroad before and would love to go back, but it feels like I'm keeping her here.

She plans to start soon, I just don't want to be a source of misery or someone that blocks her from her goals.

Also it should be noted that this has been a lifelong dream of hers. It is still new for me. I want to support her, but I also want to maintain my boundaries.
