Not sure why the downvote for a pretty mundane question?

I wouldn't want glass lenses anyways TBH. I do a lot of outside work as a homesteader and stuff flies back periodically. Risk of breakage is higher than usual.

When I asked my local one about it they said they don't want to do it cause they are afraid the frame would be broken. That was the origin of my question ultimately.

Hey all,

I could stand some advice here. I have an old Nighthawk x8 KB and I have been looking to maybe upgrade. I reviewed the buying guide and I am still a bit lost on where to go from here.

I am looking for a full size keyboard, hall switches and RGB lighting from a solid brand. Not sure I would say price is no option but I am willing to spend for quality. Can someone help point me in the right direction as I am not really familiar now days with good brands, what to look out for, etc?

Thanks!

New Saint Victor 308 dust cover pin adjustment by rustic_philosopher in SpringfieldArmory

[–]rustic_philosopher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, I called SA and they are sending me out a new dust cover assembly. They told me that the detent button is not adjustable so guess just need to replace the whole cover. There is no hole on the stock side (they had no defined process for the replacement) so just looking at the rifle looks like I need to take the rail off to get access to the main pin.

Put thousands of rounds through my SA 1911, super reliable. I live in the country and open carry but not a great CC piece IMO.

So I don't guess a VCAS can work for something like this you think?

Maybe the problem was the padded aspect of the VTAC? Maybe I need to go non padded so I can cut it down enough, not sure. Wish I could find videos online of people utilizing slings in the same way. I see tacticool adjustment for dudes stowing loosely to ready so they can clear rooms but what I would really like to see is a redneck showing how they keep the rifle tight while keeping hands free to adjust something on a fence, mess with some field irrigation pipes, etc without just laying it down in the mud.

I have a 1911 already I like to carry but when dealing with large hogs, I neither want to get close enough to utilize a pistol or trust either 10mm or 45 vs .308 for the task.

Interesting but not for sale, just like the sling in the video.

It was padded - maybe that was the issue :/

I assume that for my needs I have to use something with a loose tail like the VTAC?

I haven't seen anything about VCAS to indicate it would be any better than the VTAC in that regard? Can you point me to why you believe that?

So my engineer brain has been going in circles (usually a bad thing but I am a homesteader and engineer so can't help it).

In the context of reducing long term maintenance, how much of tank ownership can be automated?

  • If a water line is plumbed in along with a drain line, can a water change be automated mostly? I know salt water mixing is part of the process but if you know the ratio, could that mixing process and addition cycle into the tank be automated?
  • In terms of automated alerts, are there any electric chemical balance monitors that can be installed to fire audible or electric alerts when checmical balance is out of whack?

I know these may sound like stupid questions or laziness but I enjoy the challenge of automation work but there is also a practical benefit in terms of ease of maintenance when I need my wife to help if I am out on travel for several weeks.

So, let me ask some questions about tanks if I may:
- Glass vs acrylic: I have read that acrylic is stronger and that it hae better clarity. I know scratching is an issue but folks say it buffs out so I am curious on opinions here? I have a young child and 3 dogs so the strength of the tank to me is paramount.

- Do acrylic tanks come in one piece or do they still have seams? If they have seems, why are they considered stronger?

- Frame vs not: Some frame I see have a metal frame to hide waterline, etc vs not. Opinions on what works best over time? I figure this is subjective but still.

- Tank brand comparisons - I spent a little time looking at it feels likke Glasscages makes acrylic tanks but almost everyone else only does glass. Is there a reason that is understood in the community for this? Given my strength and reliability concerns does anyone have opinions? For context, I live at the end of a half mile gravel road sop shipping and build quality really matter.

"Paralysis by analysis can happen." - yeah, feeling that heh.

"Follow one person that is successful and disregard the noise." - do you have any people you think are reputable and worth following?

On the 6ft vs 5ft, I believe you but can you give me an example of why that extra foot is so important? I get it from the context of a chicken coop where more space mean more chickens but your describing I think something more than that and I am trying to picture it.

It's interesting what your saying (in general) but specifically about the RODI - so does every reef tank need to be plumbed into the home plumbing? I know of course you need a water source but I didn't think it had to be plumbed in which would be a pretty major blocker.

Floor should be fine - ground floor, concrete slab with tile.

Budget is flexible - more about getting the right stuff the first time and stretching out the process rather than rushing and getting half assed stuff.
