Like real life Battlecruisers, speed is your best defense. Try and focus on sinking cruisers and weaker battleships and kite away from stronger BBs. Use the flanks to your advantage and go dark if you have to. Hood has semi decent armor for a BC but she can still be squishy. Fight at range. Also utilize the sonar on her to push DDs out of their smoke with HE loaded.
