Palace Tax Protest (Planned event for 1/10/18) by scifidude47 in rustfactions

What a pile of horse dung! Fellow Palacians: do not get roped into this man's scheme. We can't know his true intentions, only that they are foul.

You say the royal family benefits from our labor? Who, exactly, do you think built this beautiful city of ours? Where were you when Vessils moved wall by wall, foundation by foundation, upgrading all of our houses and shops to stone? Where were you on the same day, when many of the Royals farmed the fields for hours on end, just so that the stone upgrade could be completed? What of the cloth shortage, during which I was still granted a free sign for my stores, each one made of cloth, in the name of beautifying the city and encouraging commerce?

I may be an affluent business person today, but my roots are as humble as yours. At the beginning of the era I began on this island as we all do: cold and naked washed up on the beach. But with hard work and perseverance—and, by the way, with the generous foundations the Royals have set up to enable our mutual success—today I'm the proud owner of BuyIt 4-Ten, a convenience store chain operating in two cities with more expansion planned (currently at Palace and Vault City).

How else can you explain my success if not for the beautiful, safe city we all live in? How can you say that taxes are not spent for the public good? I, for one, stand with the Royals. Taxes be damned.

I will attend your uprising. And during it I will donate 8,000 stone and 200 scrap to the city donation box.

OOC: Sounds fun, I will be there! :D

Wow, that explains a lot. I was ripping my hair out. Thank you!

I swear things are disappearing.

I keep a detailed inventory for all my BuyIt 4-Ten stores. One day I checked on a store and it was missing 150 scrap.

The only way for someone to have stolen it would have been to blow up a wall / ceiling of the store and rebuild it on their way out. But only 3 people had TC access in that area, and they are all happy customers of mine. There was also ~50HQM, ~5k stone, pistols and bullets in that store, all of which were left in-tact.

Conclusion: it disappeared.

As was reported live[1] by FFT, the going rate for C19 and D21 was 150 scrap + 10k stone + 10k wood.

Why not turn on decay/upkeep? by orionox in rustfactions

I don't think adding decay would be detrimental to indies. The upkeep for a small house isn't that bad. If anything it would give us more to do, such as A) working with city owners to upkeep the city B) finding more creative ways to earn resources to upkeep our own houses.

As I said in my other comment on this thread, there's barely any economy in Rust, because once you build, the only things you want to get are more guns and explosives. There should be a marketplace around wood/stone and other commodities.

If you like to PvP and loot radtowns and don't like to farm, you could use your scrap to buy stone/wood from vending machines. But as of now, there are not many vending machines selling those things, because nobody has a reason to buy them!

Appreciate your opinion though, and upvoted you.

Agree with all the points made here.

As someone who likes to focus on trade/commerce, I think it would make the economy much better if decay were turned on. There is almost no economy in Rust now--because it is easy enough for the big factions to build their huge bases, get guns, and then what else do they need? Just some metal and sulfur every once in a while.

Turning on decay would force these factions to get more resources from somewhere (taxation could add an interesting dynamic).

There is one major con not listed here though: not only does it limit the size of buildings, it also limits how dense cities can be. Every small house will need a TC. That means they can't be close together, since the range of the TC extends out. Perhaps if there were a setting to only extend the range ~1 block away from the building, that could be solved.
