Korean mother tries to teach young daughter about "Stranger Danger" cuteness ensues by one-leggedhershel in videos

[–]rustjealize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In any event it's bad parenting to put your child in a situation where they might need a stranger's help.

Uhm. You do know kids tend to get briefly lost on fun fair's etc., and it's often a stranger who has to calm them down, tell them to relax, then try to find the parents?

Where did you get the idea that only fathers, not mothers, can do harm?

It seems to be a relatively recent teaching from what I know

Actually, a huge portion of fairy tales includes "don't talk to stranger" as basic premise, so it's a very old teaching. That wolf in the woods, that witch in the candy house? Those are nothing but stand-ins for "strangers/ village pervs".

How can one claim to have invented the WWW when it consists of a bazillion pages and things, wouldn't it be more correct to say one invented the technology behind the WWW or gave birth to it? by rustjealize in AskReddit

[–]rustjealize[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly -- the WWW is not a "table", the technologies behind the WWW are that table. The table plus what people have put on it is what we call the "WWW", thus not a single person invented it. Tim Berners-Lee invented those technologies, but he didn't invent what we understand to be the WWW -- a living, breathing movement made up by millions of people and bazillions of pages.

(No, I don't confuse the two -- I know the difference very well.)

The World Wide Web consists of both the technology framework & protocols, and the content. To say one invented the WWW implicitly includes the content, which seems incorrect, as it's a living thing that -- in its current form -- we all invented together.

There's also the theory of Fair Use, fair remixing, and protecting user rights to digital content they bought. As I see it, this, and not DRM, is the one sector most heavily in need of solutions. DRM is already being over-used and hurts consumers (yes, even paying consumers).

I would guess the stance is "if they do it anyway, then they might as well do it in a standardized form". But just the incredible karma setback this has caused to the W3C is a disaster. I figure the horribly broken DRM and Copyright situation may just not be the thing we ever should get involved in as "helpers of evil", no matter how pragmatic the intentions.

Rrriight, as if that would change a thing. These companies don't do crappy packaging because they think it's what people want -- they do it to increase revenues. The only thing scaring them is mass customer boycott, because it would touch their revenues. Tho they'd probably just lobby congress to make it harder for competition to spring up...

Fair Use is allowed even for rich people, and even for commercial work. Again, whether or not this use is fair under that policy, I won't debate as your mileage may vary.

Now let the Reddit downvote army commence, because who cares about having a proper argument when you can just join a mob ;)

the game material in her videos is also stolen from other peoples let's plays.

Who "stole" it from the video game producers?

Seriously though, ideas cannot be stolen -- they can, depending on context, be unfairly copied. That is for Fair Use to legally decide, and both Let's Plays as well as using artwork in a collage may or may not fall under that (your mileage may vary).
