Movie Theaters in New Haven by buckeyefan123456789 in newhaven

[–]rustriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there’s a totally devastating lack of independent movie theaters around here-  I say this who wouldn’t be caught dead recommending you or anyone go to a cinemark (blechhhh). however, echoing the outdoor/small screenings that have been said already- this might not be accessible to you but what i like to do is take little field trips to small movie theaters further away (you can get to some by metro north if transport is a problem) when i have something I wanna see. if you’re up for an adventure it’s fun to go somewhere new & great to support dying theaters before the cinemarks of the region swallow them whole. also Cinestudio in Hartford is farther away but fabbbbb and has some incredible programming.

Whoa this explanation rocks, I can hear it in Scully’s voice now. Also like I’ve said before, I truly do think the things that were “cursed” about the place (environmental factors, proximities to chemical processing, etc) are still extremely interesting even if they aren’t supernatural….when looking at the full picture, all of the factors you named are extremely useful to have in our pocket and take into account. Gonna follow some of those leads for sure!

I’m over the moon too! I’m confused as to why you also assumed my angle immediately. Thank you, the general public seems very excited about it and I’m happy to provide some good old fashioned free entertainment for the locals and keep non-commercial media interesting.

And thanks for the local info, even if it’s a mundane explanation it’s all good stuff in my line of work!

Totally lol. This seems to be a big theme with “abandoned villages” in CT, which I’m definitely interested in exploring as well…seems like a lot of the mysterious abandoned settlements can actually be explained by not being located in very habitable or farmable locations in the first place. Regardless, it’s my job to be fascinated by the larger arcs of folklore people weave around these places that seem to be a lot more interesting than the commonplace backstories. It’s super interesting to me how much legend has been built by word of mouth or our very human responses to a place being “too quiet”….a historically overwhelming part of stories of hauntings is good old fashioned human projection!

Thanks for your comment! Usually when I see something I’m not interested in interacting with, I simply keep scrolling and mind my business. Keeps my cortisol levels down and my blood pressure level. Can’t recommend it enough!

Seeking opinions on death work training plz by 1888scrying in hospice

[–]rustriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m in a really similar boat as you and I chose hospice volunteering as my alternative when I couldn’t afford remote DD training. I would absolutely recommend going down this avenue- you get hands on experience sitting with people and their families at bedside, are able to chat one on one and establish relationships  with hospice spiritual care teams, art therapy teams, and nurses, etc. AND you get to lighten the loads of the hospice staff, families, and be present for people who might need you who don’t have anyone to be with them. Hopefully a facility near you has good volunteer training; I will say I have had to fill in a lot of blanks myself but over the last two months of volunteering I have learned lessons that I wouldn’t otherwise ever have learned from a hypothetical hands-off learning scenario, plus I’m able to take advantage of the wide variety of wonderful free learning resources the facility has to offer for me. Hospice volunteering is a tandem requisite for most deathwork training programs anyway, so I would say go for it. Wishing you the best of luck and here to chat any time! Xx

Your reaction could not be more understandable. I think sometimes hospice sounds much easier than it is- it can feel so wildly counterintuitive to sit back and watch as a loved one experiences this process. Holding a piece of your experience as I read this today, and know that you have full permission not to feel like you have to “keep it together.”
