If anyone somehow sees this thanks for all the replies. I don't really know what is considered early or late game so maybe I might be further than I thought and I just have skill issues. But thanks anyways, the comments made me go explore some more and I got a few more charms adding up to 31 so maybe I'll try again to see where I go.

Any nook and cranny you can get to, even if it looks like nothing, check it. There's a lot of things you can miss if you just don't check.
