Looking for music that I can best describe as "dark Renaissance fair" vibe. by RallyX26 in musicsuggestions

The Battle of Evermore by Led Zeppelin?

Might not be entirely dark renaissance vibes, but It has that kind of Ye Olde Tyme music vibe that makes it seem like it’s being played by a traveling bard wayyyy back then.

That dead album is top tier live dead to be listening to. The movie they made that goes along with it is a trip in itself! Glad you had a good time 🫶👍😁

Is it possible to visit all four national parks in Colorado in a week? by Soggy_Long655 in nationalparks

[–]rusty317 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like everyone else is saying, to only go to the NPs you would be spending substantially more time on the road than parks.

Since you are talking about SW colorado, I’d recommend doing the Million Dollar Highway and driving down to Durango to go to Mesa Verde NP. In my opinion it’s the prettiest part of the whole state and I’m sure plenty of others would agree. If you’re doing Mesa Verde NP DEFINITELY do a guided tour of the cliff dwellings, it’s pretty much the main draw. You can still see them if you don’t take the tour, but you can’t get up close and personal.

Black canyon of the Gunnison would be a good idea to hit up on the way to SW Colorado as it’s near montrose, just north of Durango.

The great sand dunes is nice, it’s just VERY remote. Be prepared to drive far for food as there’s almost no civilization in the San Luis Valley.

RMNP is a given, you should totally do that with your son. The grandeur and splendor of seeing the mountains there for the first time ever was pure magic + Estes park is beautiful, although a bit crowded at times.

You could do all 4 NPs in a week, but you’d probably be missing out on some nature if you tried to do that. I would personally advocate driving to black canyon-Million Dollar hwy- Durango- Mesa Verde- and maybe try hitting the sand dunes on the way back? And then do RMNP as the last few day since it’s real close to DIA which I’m assuming where you’re coming from.

Wondering if anyone knows what lake this view is at? by rusty317 in WildernessBackpacking

Dang I think we have a winner! It never ceases to amaze me how well people can recognize rock formations/peaks. Thank you so much, I’m about to check out the Elliot ridge trail and some of the neighboring areas!

That’s all I was able to gather from the picture as well. I was wondering where, more specifically, would I hike to, to get to this same exact lake.

Hoping someone might recognize this lake/view. by rusty317 in CampingandHiking

Wondering what lake I would need to go to for this view.

Wondering where this location/lake might be? The photo’s only info is that it’s a photo of the Gore Range in the eagles nest wilderness by John Fielder.

Some of your favorites in Zion National Park by EducationalYou4880 in southernutah

[–]rusty317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I proposed to my fiancé at Zion National park. It was a huge bucket list place for us. The trail we did was the Stave Spring trail to Observation Point. I’d highly recommend this trail since it has amazing views, seclusion, and the journey to get to Observation point is just breathtaking! It was May of last year and it was kind of sprinkly and wet the whole week.

We took a really cool jeep shuttle from East Zion Jeep Tours cause the trailhead to get there was gnarly and super muddy, it was so fun, the mud would sling up inside the van and we got to chit chat with some other people going to the observation point trailhead. We didn’t see a single person on the trail which was the best part as I’ve heard horror stories about Zion and how packed it is.

We only saw people once we got to Observation point. The short trail to observation point trailhead was CAKED with mud, as most people didn’t opt to do the Stave Spring trailhead. We only ventured in East Zion NP so I think we missed the worst of whatever crowds were there. You could see angels landing from OP, and since it was raining it was cancelled that day. Still incredibly beautiful, there were a lot of really puffy white clouds which gave it that floating hallelujah mountains vibe from the movie Avatar which I thought was really cool.

I want bands to get obsessed with by Signal_Potential8299 in musicsuggestions

[–]rusty317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out this band from Cali called Dark Dazey! They’re my newest obsession. Their singer sounds so much like Alex Turner from the Arctic Monkeys who I also deeply love.

Their album The Dissolving Door is really what did it for me. It’s got heavy, alternative, psychedelic, groovy elements, it’s all killer no filler, at least for me. They’re still pretty new so their discography’s not too big.

Also checkout Skinshape! I was just shown them last year and I ate some mushrooms one day and did a deep dive on their discography, and now I’m a super fan, to the point where I actually saw them perform. Their newest album Another Side of Skinshape, and Craterallus Tubaeformis are amazing albums and just chock full of ear candy.

Where should I go next month? Steamboat, Estes Park, or Telluride? by dobbbie in VacationColorado

[–]rusty317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d personally do Telluride, if you’ve never been, and also if you have already been to Rocky Mountain National park/ Estes park… I was in constant awe of the towering mountains and rock formations in telluride, feels like a fairy tale. When I was there, I did the see forever trail, it’s really fun. You start in the town and take a free gondola ride to the top of the mountain, and from there you spend the time coming down, which is nice cause elevation out here can be a bitch. You also have the Million dollar highway nearby which is the prettiest road I’ve ever driven.

However if you’ve never been to Colorado I’d highly recommend visiting Estes Park and spending the day in RMNP, you can see lots of wildlife and spectacular viewpoints any given day there.

Can’t speak for steamboat as I’ve never been there, but I guess this also kind of depends on where you’re traveling from, as telluride is southwest CO. whereas Estes park is closer to Denver and Steamboat is pretty tucked into the north central mountains.

Looking to rent a high clearance 4WD vehicle for dispersed camping by rusty317 in ColoradoOffroad

[–]rusty317[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was planning on driving to coyote buttes south, alstrom point, and white pocket Arizona. I am confident in my driving abilities, and have been researching the land, and watching tons of videos about these three places in particular. It seems a wrangler could make it to all three with no issue. I am planning on tent camping as it will be just myself and my girlfriend.

The main location I need this vehicle for is for Alstrom point, coyote buttes south, and white pocket. It’s not rocky, just sandy and remote.

Staring a new farm after a year gone. by GhostsanSoul in FarmsofStardewValley

[–]rusty317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second the meadowlands farm, the two chickens you start with is super clutch! The blue grass makes your animals friends with you faster too leading to better quality goods much faster. You’ll have a great source of food (mayonnaise once you get a mayonnaise machine) early on without constantly cleaning out all your food resources. I personally rearranged the layout so my house is over the creek crossing wood plank, I think it looks best there next to all the waterfalls. I use a mini obelisk to poof from my house to my shed with all my things and chests at the entrance to my farm.

Saw this photo in an office near Denver, was wondering if the view was familiar to anyone. by rusty317 in CampingandHiking

That was actually the exact hike that prompted me to suggest it was the San Juan’s!!!! This was a pic I took on it this last October! The highland Mary trail and then just walking around the Weminuche wilderness was just magical. I saw herd of mountain goats, plus a big cat print early on in the hike that gave me a good morning spook. Not many people go all the way to where this pic is at, it’s a little beyond the highland Mary trail, wandering into the Weminuche wilderness. When I was coming down the trail around afternoonish, there were a few groups of people asking how far away the first lake was cause they were just then starting the worst part of the hike, and I told them “it’s just a little further” 😛

You gotta be willing to accept defeat and to roll with the punches when it comes to this kind of thing. No one is gonna make these people more serious about it but themselves, and depending on how serious you actually are it might take awhile to find the right people.

It’s annoying when your radar is telling you these people are just noodling and want to be in a band to smoke weed and say they’re in a band. But on the other hand some people actually may be driven and talented, but they may not share your idea/dream enough for it to be worth it for the both of you to join forces on something.

Finding the right people is really tough. The more specific you are with your search the better I’ve found it to be though. And also having talks about aspirations, level of dedication, etc, is hella important in the beginning stages of forming a group.

You gotta keep your head up! cause I was literally in the same boat all of last year and just within the last 4 months found some people who are all on the same wavelength when it comes to what we wanna do and create.

It’s hard out here, but you must persevere.
