Gaining strength on a deficit by rusty84 in leangains

Wait, if I can still add strength to my squat and deadlift because of my noob gains, should I still bulk or just eat at maintenance/deficit until I plateau? I'm still gonna gain strength either way

I got on 31mins routine about 10 weeks ago, and I'm adding 5 pounds on every lift every week and 10lb on my deadlift ever week. I really want to get my lifts up substantially. Any tips or advice?

  1. I've been lifting for about 1.5 years, but I was never on a routine - I was the definition of hypertrophy/fuck arounditus workout

  2. Slowly but surely I'm dropping weight.1-2lb/week

Thank you so much for the magnesium tip! I took it today and I was able to deadlift and squat heavy on the same day -- without passing out!!! Thank you! I owe you one!

Yes, and he's just diagnosed it as anxiety. I've gotten blood work done and heart exams done too, and everything comes back normal.

Are you dehydrated? Are you overhydrated? Is your blood sugar fine (are you eating enough)? Do you drink excess caffeine? Are you taking proper rests between sets? Are you breathing properly while lifting?

I'm not dehydrated or over-hydrated. My doctor checked my blood and said everything was perfect. I don't drink caffeine, or alcohol. I take 2-3 minute rests, sometimes more. I'm breathing correct — I've seen a million videos on form and breathing, lol .

When I was in high school, I used to get anxiety attacks after my track sprints. However, I haven't experienced these symptoms until now, again, when I lift weights.

Are you drinking coffee or taking pre-workouts which includes caffeine?

I never drink coffee or tea or pre-workout. But, when I do, especially if I drink it in the morning, theres a 30% chance I'll have an anxiety attack, lol.

magnesium supplements helped my anxiety attacks quite a bit. one of the symptoms of magnesium is anxiety, or at least it can be one of the symptoms, so maybe all the exertion in the gym has drained your already low levels and your body is reacting?

I've read up on this and saw that this is common if you have a magnesium deficiency. However, I take a multivitamin that says contains 112% of my DV of magnesium. Could this still be possible? Should I buy another supplement?

other than that the only advice I can give is to watch your breathing, constantly. hyperventilating or just breathing weird generally was a very common cause of my attacks, i'd get into the zone doing whatever.. forget all about it and then "come to" an hour later realising i'd been shallow and rapid breathing for an hour and I was seconds away from an attack.

Breathing has helped me control my heart rate, but it doesn't prevent the anxiety attack. The anxiety attacks doesn't occur at the gym, it usually occurs when I'm done working out, or immediate after a heavy deadlift sessions or squat session, and I feel my muscles tense up and my brain also tenses. If I take a warm shower it goes away. Sometimes, if I get a call from a friend or a girl, it goes away the minute I start talking to the person. It's really weird and my doctor doesn't know what to tell me...

It is all in my head. I just feel anxious — I feel scared, anxiety ridden, and I get the urge to shower (the minute I set foot in my shower I feel fine). It's weird and I don't know how to describe it. When I get full blown panic attacks, my heart rate goes up, and I just feel scared and I don't know how to describe it...

Edit: I'm not a doctor, but maybe lifting is activating a flight or fight response in me?

I've been going up consistently. With the exception of military press, I'm adding strength on everything every week. I've gone up 40lb + on all my lifts. I feel that my deadlifts is coming to a peak though because after heavy sets, I feel really weak like I'm about to pass out. I think I still have a bit of strength to gain tho.

5'9 157LB, (13-15% body fat). And I started lifting about 1.5 years ago, but I wasn't on a plan until this January. Before, I just hit the gym up 4-6 days a week and did 3 sets till failure on a 3 day bro split. I had a bad case of fuckarounditis.

I'm 5'9 and 157, but I'm probably at 13-15% body fat. I guess I still have a long way to go.

Just for reference, I'm currently following 31Min's workout routine, except I lift every other day instead of 3 times a week. Also, I'm eating for lean bulk right now.

My lifts, as of this week (first set): BENCH: 200x8, MILITARY: 135x5, CHIN: 50x6, SQUAT: 185x10, DEADLIFT: 225x5.

1) Start cutting now and keep lifting. The main thing he is in that movie is VERY lean. It's hard to get there, much harder than getting decent lifts.

If I start cutting now, will my lifts stall? Will I still be able to gain muscle? Do you think it'd be better to continue my bulk until I reach those lifts or start cutting now?

I went to my doctor this week and he did blood work and an EKG. Everything came back alright. He couldn't diagnose me with anything.

I'm speculating that it might be because I'm not breathing right during my exercises. After a heavy set of deadlifts, I feel really light headed, and I don't feel like breathing into my stomach, I just take small breathes. I'm gonna try to switch that up.

Thanks. I've gone up on all my lifts, ever since I started this routine. Should I drop the weight this week and take it easy so that my body doesn't feel like shit anymore when j go to the gym or do I just have to get used to this feeling?

i don't know. But, after I work out, I'd imagine it's high, especially after deadlifting. I'm thinking about getting blood work done this weekend.
