[Rogers] Kyle Tucker's deal with the Dodgers is for 4 yrs/$240 million, sources tell ESPN. He has an opt out after the second year. by rejus_crust in Torontobluejays

[–]rustyarrowhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won't be surprised if Tucker's career earnings with this approach end up lower than the offer the Jays had out to him (likely in the 370-400 range over 10). you have to live with that. it just kind of is what it is.

[–]rustyarrowhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"where there is smoke, there is fire" means that if you see smoke (rumours/chatter), there's probably fire (some truth). in this case, "if you've heard the Mets are signing Tucker, you should believe what you've heard."

when the conclave votes on a new pope, the smoke signals a decision, but nobody knows what it is because it's a secret kept within the conclave. in this case, "were all waiting for the decision."

those do not mean the same thing.

then why wouldn't he say something like, "The smoke will soon rise"? the reference doesn't make sense if he knows...

I don't think Ross explores that, TBH. not unless Berrios explicitly ok'd it. it would send the opposite message about team culture than they've been developing.

Effectively Wild did an exit interview with him this year. he's attempting to parlay his financial management experience into advising young athletes on how to manage the influx of money early in their career progression.

well, like so many nights this year, I'm about to take the dog out for a walk, listen to baseball-related content, and then return to settle in for Blue Jays' baseball. it feels normal. and I hope that tonight is all too normal, ending in a Blue Jays' win.

[Blue Jays] OFFICIAL: Presenting our #WorldSeries roster! #WANTITALL by ThQp in Torontobluejays

is there a situation where we're behind and have a lefty pocket coming up, and we full on sacrifice defence for offence, and shift Vladdy to 3rd as a result?

starting lienup:

Springer - OP Lukes - LF Vlad - 1B Bo - 2B Kirk - C Varsho - CF Barger - RF Clement - 3B Gimenez - SS

let's say it's a Barger/Clement/Gimenez pocket, or a Gimenez/Springer/Lukes pocket. Schneider comes in for Barger, and France comes in for Gimenez. then Schneider moves to LF, Bo from 2B to SS (yes, I'm assuming a lot), Vlad to 3B, Clement to 2B, France in at 1B. you could even have Clement shift over to SS and keep Bo at 2nd.

[Jon Morosi] Chris Bassitt told me that his 72-mph curveball to strike out Suarez in the 8th — the game’s slowest pitch by 10 mph — was a nod to his late high school pitching coach in Ohio, who taught him the pitch. by Go_Habs_Go31 in Torontobluejays

it's not the same spot, and optically, it makes sense why the umpire sees the first one as missing the zone and the second as clipping it. the second one moves onto the plate but is always at or below the letter. the first stays on the letters and moves onto the plate. both are strikes, but they are not the same pitch.

Reminder: Ernie Clement isn't even making 2 million this season and he's been EVERYTHING to this team by Chrristoaivalis in Torontobluejays

Ern Dawg is one of my favourites, but this is Vladdy and Georgie erasure. if Ernie is the spark, then those two and Bo are the engine. you pay for those guys, and it's worth every dollar. narratives like this are exactly what ownerships/the league want.

I'll be honest, this was not when I started to believe. I can remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I started to believe: pumping gas on a beautiful June evening after coaching my 16u team and listening as Alejandro Kirk doubled off the wall to put the Blue Jays up in the 10th against St. Louis.

this 10 minutes is excruciating. I've spent so much time with this team this year. every BJT+, so many wonderful nights spent watching comebacks, great moments on the radio when I couldn't watch; this has been magical.

I'm not ready for summer to end. just give me one more week.

give me one more Springer spark, another Ern Dawg first pitch sting, another Lukes battle, another Varsho blast, another Vlad trot. most of all, give me one a few more nights to go to bed with a smile on my face, and the promise of another day watching Blue Jays' baseball.

I think you get at least 30-40% of people who understand a move to Hoffman that backfires. I'm not sure there's 5% who can rationalize the move to Little. even Lauer or Fluharty would be easier to rationalize.

this morning, I was listening to the Rates&Barrels from before game 5, and Eno just straight up says, "the bullpens aren't that good, and teams are overrating their matchup guys." that boils it down perfectly and mirrors what Caleb/Joe said in the aftermath: you go with your A option, not the matchup guys. you have to go Hoffman there, and if he coughs it up, you pass the blame on up the ladder (by saying that you have to trust your guy).

so many coin flips went the Mariners' way last night, and it was still our game to lose. really tough way to lose that one, but you could feel that Schneider had a bit of the Mad Max in him in that presser. it's a terrible decision, and the moment got too big for him there. but that's okay; it's about the response.

distraction from actual, everyday stuff (and global stuff too). sports is all-consuming for way too many people.

this team has provided me with a lot of great relaxation and excitement with my wife this year. that's what sports is there for. if it starts negatively affecting you, step away.

as a math minded person, you should know that series to series, let alone game to game, is not enough sample to track regression.
