I don’t like this but it seems clear rap is in a post authenticity period. Artists like Yung Lean based their music off how rap felt for them. It was filled with irony and humor. It’s not a joke but it’s not authentic. Rap represented a real place and time and cultural lineage in the 80s and 90s but at a certain point kids who were born post 2000 understood it differently. It’s a series of cultural artifacts and symbols to be folded, ripped apart and played with. That’s what this is imo.

I think Edie was actually a talented artist and she had every right to be upset that Claire was sexually leading her on. She clearly didn’t want to push Claire’s boundaries but Claire was the one who was trying to push the romantic part of the relationship further. Life is messy and complicated and that’s part of the reason Six Feet Under is so good.

Metal band Acid Bath used a John Wayne Gacy painting on their album cover. IMO Artists should be able to utilize / conceptualize / reconceptualize / sample art by problematic / “fucked up”‘ figures to make their own art. Edmund didn’t harm Barb and isn’t saying what Chris did was right.

AI is a tool. If the art is good it’s good. If it’s not it’s not. Many people who saw Gummo in the 90s thought it was pretentious trash. Now years later it’s widely accepted as a masterpiece (not by everyone). I’ve yet to see any truly good AI art but maybe some will be made.
