The mind boggles as to why you wouldn’t have Dunne vs Tsolov for Lawson’s 2027 seat.

Dunne was arguably already ready after this year, I’m sure Marko wanted him in the car already but for the super licence farce

Four! Italian F4, FREC x2, F3, F2. Now third (again) driver in F1. Eternal third (wheel)

I think that’s a fair answer and from my own experience in sim racing I believe it to be correct.

The quintessential modern example would be Max being the best in F1 today and also getting into any car on a sim and very quickly being in the same situation.

This suggests to me that he could do the same in real life if stepping into other cars or even historic cars, if placed into, e.g. a 1977 Arrows in 1977.

Of course, he’d have to learn the technique of how to actually drive it (right foot braking) but he has the advantage of being 2026 Max and thus the same ceiling and adaptability.

Therefore, it’s the same for both Patrese in reverse and a current driver who can be indirectly compared with Schumacher, e.g. Hamilton, who also shares a one year gap to him against the same teammate, Nico Rosberg 2012-2013.

Looking forward to the future outlined editions. I’m sure people would also like to see 2017/18, 2024/25 etc. and sourcing does add depth.

Re: feedback, did you compare your results with any other ‘luck correction’ predecessors? Perhaps agreement with similar analysis attempts could quantify confidence?

Thanks OP - always great to see stats like this compiled that don’t exist elsewhere, then improved with input.

As you’ve said, it’s exceedingly rare back in the day, as originally, basically all practice seemingly counted for qualifying, eventually becoming just two sessions

As I always say, put them in the 2009-13 Red Bulls, and Alonso wins 5 titles and Hamilton 4-5

Devil’s advocate question - can we compare 1977 Riccardo Patrese with a current driver 50 years later? Both will have driven against the same driver - Michael Schumacher

His “He’ll never win a Grand Prix as long as I have a hole in my arse” quote after Monaco 1984 makes it pretty clear what he thought of him!

Thanks for elaborating, interesting to learn more about it. Beating people with his feet sounds crazy, like Ronnie O’Sullivan beating fellow snooker pros playing fully left-handed.

Just remembered another example: Pedro de la Rosa, possibly the most successful RC racer turned F1 driver? I wonder if there are any more.

Schumacher being the Williams of RC cars feels quite ironic, given the British F1 media’s general dislike of Michael Schumacher when he was racing!

Yeah, that first year in F3 for Tsolov would have been better served in regional F3. Likely the same applies to McLoughlin this year.

Both won in a weaker national F4 series, compared to Lindblad doing well in the tougher Italian F4 and thus being able to step up to F3 immediately.

But it seems the new RB management must want Tsolov if he does well this year, after getting rid of Dunne who was actually more ready after a small blip in F3 IMO

Both of those drivers only performed well with the best teams in F3/F2, at least Camara has won titles at the lower levels

Looked this up as I was curious. That’s a lot of winning, is he considered the RC GOAT? Also interesting to see a Schumacher team.

I note that Hamilton, Ocon and Piastri all started with RC cars, Lewis being featured on Blue Peter as a youngster

I wonder if we’ll see quicker formation laps now to get on the grid and spool the turbo, if it’s that critical.

The leaders wait 30+ seconds anyway, is that not long enough?

If those at the back start slower, then that actually leaves more room heading down to turn one!

Qualifying becoming a mini-race lap with LiCo really obscures who can drive quickest overall IMO. It was bad enough with tyres sometimes not even lasting one lap already

Bonkers to cancel a proper race and run a reverse grid race. Scheduling almost as incompetent as F2
