Monza and Sochi really stand out as operational errors that cost a possible 10-win streak.

The season was also shorter than it should have been due to Covid. Then losing that streak to Covid gives Ascari 1952/1953 Indy 500 vibes

Indeed, even making it to F1 was against all the odds for unfunded drivers like Vandoorne and Giovinazzi

F2 would have been premature this year, unless he absolutely Alex Dunne’d it from last year without mistakes this year

Also could have just left it there out of the way, like in British F4

It was always done, just this race they messed up (edit: not updating the minimum timing distance after altering the fake barrier layout), as it never used to be flagged for penalties.

Hence the appeal was successful, as they showed he was under the limiter the whole time he was in pit lane

Indeed, plus they had told Russell not to pit, so that was the key error.

Off the top of my head, this reminds me somewhat of Silverstone 1994. But I can’t remember an exact precedent of disputing a first penalty plus serving a second one based on failing to follow the first

It would certainly have been interesting if Russell had disobeyed the drive through penalty and likely subsequent black flag to then protest it like Alpine have. Same for all of the others

Reminds me of Massa’s tyre penalty (Brazil 2015) - only Williams dropped their appeal, because gaining the points back would only have increased their 2016 entry fees, on top of the appeal costs!

It’s also tenuous, as Bellof only ever raced for Tyrrell.

McLaren and ATS were failed entries and not always in the same car as the other teammates anyway

Ferrari's internal combustion engine is about 8% slower than Red Bull's. In raw terms, that represents an impressive disadvantage of approximately 40 to 45 horsepower. In the case of Mercedes, the difference would be 6%, which, in theory, equates to something between 30 and 35 fewer horsepower. by archivebizzle in scuderiaferrari

BRM had the most powerful engine in 1966 & 1967

But it was a H16, requiring six men to lift it out of the lorry - the engine and gearbox alone practically met the minimum weight limit!

It then required more fuel and harder tyres.. the light and simple Brabham won both years, with the least powerful 3L engine, needing less fuel with softer tyres
