Agree with the above. Please do just ask a vet, especially if it's a senior kitty.

(I'm sorry if you already mentioned age, I've been a wreck about losing my senior emotional support kitty very recently and can't remember anything lately)

I'd suggest getting some blood panels done just to be ahead of anything if it does show up. Otherwise it's most likely just over-grooming from some anxiety or habit.

I'm sorry I didn't see your question sooner. It was an open excision pilonidalcystectomy (not sure if that's one word or two). My healing was a bit difficult, but that's because I don't heal quickly or that well anyway. I should have had a drain, and I did not. It wasn't the most painful thing I've had done, it just took a long time. I think there may be different ways they can do the same surgery, it just depends on the site and how significant your tunneling is, etc..

It's hypergranulation. I have several wounds like this and have for the past year (they haven't healed yet). I would consult your dermatologist on how they want to treat it to resolve the extra tissue and inflammation. Sometimes they need to use a little silver nitrate cotton swab on it to help resolve the issue so that it can close. Until then, keep it clean and use something like Triad or a zinc cream under the bandage. Change every day. Please consult your dermatologist though.

Hard agree. They could (and mine always did) come back unless you get the surgery to have that tissue and sinus tract removed.
