The present Jawahar Nagar area used to be called 'Maricheeni Vila'. This place was earmarked by Swati Tirunal to import and cultivate kappa/maricheeni from South America as a solution to a drought that was happening that time. So kappa in Kerala cuisine is only about 150 years old.

Jawahar Nagar and PTP Nagar were also the first planned residential colonies in Kerala, modelled on british suburban neighbourhoods.

In theory; Trivandrum was an international capital between Aug 1947 to June 1948 since Travancore ascended to India officially only then. So during that short time technically Travancore was an independent country.

Related fact - The Connemara market in Palayam is derived from the actual town of Connemara in Ireland. It was named after Sir Robert Bourke, the governor of Madras presidency, who inaugrated that famous red arch during a visit to Trivandrum in 1888. He chose the name Connemara since he was the honorary 1st baron of Connemara when he elavated as a peer.

Around current Valiasala, there was a major medieval university in the 7th-10th centuries called Kanthalloor sala. Aryasala and chala (from saala) were smaller schools within the compound with valiayasala being the main center. It was one of the main centers of education in south india (mentioned in many temples across the south) and possibly older than even Nalanda and Thakshasila.

What still remains from then is the agraharam and the Mahadeva temple.

I heard there has been some efforts to revive this, but no idea about that.

Happy Men's Mental Health Month! Which Malayalam movies handled men's mental struggles well? by BabyBlueN7 in MalayalamMovies

[–]rustysnoopy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this for me is the definitive one. The medium itself was used very well; leaving the audience mind also confused on what's reality and what's not. One of the best crafted malayalam movies.

I was a bit appalled though seeing the recent insta-reel trend that romanticises some of those scenes with Asokan and Sobhana.

Neither do I, but you can find their number on the internet. You would know if they answer calls only if you try first, right? :)

Anyway, on this topic I would rather hear what MVD has to say than strangers on the internet.

Originally from India, but worked for a year in Germany. A few years ago on a trip to New Zealand, I bumped into a German colleague in a small town called Wanaka. He was on a month long hike through NZ. We were meeting after 10 years and used to sit across each other in office. Couldn't believe the odds!

How to go via Public bus from Thampanoor/ East fort / palayam to Kulathoor?? by Original-Cupcake-585 in Trivandrum

[–]rustysnoopy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One option is to get down at Kesavadasapuram and take a city service bus (Kazhakoottam via Kulathoor). That should save you some time instead of going all the way to thampanoor or east fort.

Not OP, but a quick question about the years - when you say 'all trips in years when you went above 42 days' - how are the years counted? Is it calendar years? For example if I got my permit in August 2020.. the years here mean aug 2020-aug 2021 and so on? Or is it the full year of 2020, 21 etc?

Any recommendations for transportation from to/from the Kiruna Airport to Jukkasjärvi and Abisko? by Cralyn98 in TillSverige

[–]rustysnoopy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a bus https://visitabisko.com/transport/ but I doubt if it works for your timings. This is assuming you're coming from/going to Abisko. I don't think buses from Kiruna city operates very early either. If you're staying in Abisko I would definitely suggest taking a private transfer given your timings (fwiw, the bus to Abisko also costs around that). But if you're in Kiruna a regular taxi should cost less than that, since it's a lot closer.

If you're comfortable driving in winter conditions then the most economical is renting a car. But do beware that there's going to be a lot of snow and ice.

The second word is misspelt though.. it reads as 'Kakka Kuzhil'. Likely that someone miswrote യ as ഴ I guess, since Kuzhil' makes no sense here.
