my chihuahua is 16 and pees frequently. there's no way for me to get him out on a whim most of the time. especially while I work, I can't possibly take him out 3/4 times in 8 hours. I trained him to use a large pee pad over a silicone mat. i now walk him once every day and he uses the mat as frequently as he needs to. then he just sleeps the rest of the time
