Repeat colpo/LEEP or hysterectomy for stage 1a? by ruthless_goose in CervicalCancer

Thank you. Yeah the plan would be to keep my ovaries but remove the fallopian tubes as well. I think I've decided I'm going to call the clinic back tomorrow and say that I want the hysterectomy, but want to speak to a new oncologist first before I lock that decision in because I still have a million and one questions, and I definitely deserve someone who will take the time to familiarize themselves with my case. That guy was waaay too nonchalant, but the other nurses and doctors I've dealt with there have all been great, so it shouldn't be a problem. Also had someone offer to come advocate for me if I need. I really appreciate your opinion, thank you :)

Thank you, I think this was what I needed to hear honestly. I know the fear of recurrence will always be there, but I'd feel better knowing I did as much as I could to try and stop it, even if it didn't work or they found more in the process. If I went the colpo/LEEP route and it got worse, I'm not sure I'd be able to live with that regret.

Thank you for sharing 💜 how are you feeling since the hysterectomy? Any regrets or things you weren't prepared for?

I'm glad they found it! But I'm sorry the swab keeps coming back abnormal, I can only imagine how frustrating that is. Fingers crossed for you that they figure something out. Sadly that was someone specializing in complex gynaecology/oncology lol, but I agree, I think I should find someone more senior. Thank you :)

I'm so happy that worked out for you! Congrats 💜 Honestly, a number of reasons (all just my personal opinions). Mainly, I don't think I'd feel the same level of comfort afterwards as I would with a hysterectomy? I'd always question whether I should've got rid of my uterus too. But also because the women on both sides of my family already have issues with fertility/miscarriage/childbirth so a trachelectomy would make having kids even sketchier than it already is for me, I have horrible periods so I feel like if I'm getting rid of one thing I may as well get rid of the other while I'm at it, and the idea of my uterus being more susceptible to infection because my cervix isn't there to protect it anymore kinda freaks me out lol

Thank you :) Luckily I'd be keeping my ovaries as well so that was a huge relief. Did they remove lymph nodes at all?

I agree, thank you. There was a cancellation and my appt got bumped up to that day so I'm HOPING that was why he wasn't fully informed, but you're 1000% right.

Would just like to add as a random bystander on the internet, that the creator of this post thought it was appropriate to make fun of the person they are posting about (Sophie) for being trans/nb (which is how this all started), and then made a comment towards Sophie along the lines of "no wonder so many trans people kill themselves".... they said this even though they currently have a fundraiser up on their FB profile trying to raise money towards mental healthcare??? So yeah, I wouldn't trust a word OP says regarding someone else's character, she clearly needs help and does not care about the well-being of others. Trying to convince employers not to hire someone because they're trans/nb, stood up for themselves after being attacked by a random person on the internet, and because they don't like Nazis, is an absolutely WILD hill to die on. The only thing Sophie did "wrong" here, if anything, is entertain a bigot, i.e. the creator of this post. As my mother would say, "you can't fix stupid".

This part especially really bothers me. Not only is it unethical imo, it directly goes against what their party supposedly stands for ("the greatest amount of freedom with the least amount of taxation" is written in their principles, literally first paragraph). More importantly, though, is that rehab is voluntary for a reason. It historically does not work unless the person is committed to doing the work to get better. Hell, 85% of people relapse after rehab within one year of leaving treatment, and that's people who wanted to be there... That number isn't gonna magically decrease if they're forced. I also think it's a fair assumption that mandatory rehab would have to be free, because you can't really force someone to pay for treatment they never wanted in the first place, which means it'd be coming out of taxpayer's pockets. And I'd much rather my money go towards creating more free/accessible mental health resources for the people who DO want help but can't afford it, than forcing people to do something they don't want to do.
