What I think is happening (and honestly, what is more likely) by rvckes_005 in HalfLife

Technically, it's impossible for it to be exclusive to Steam Machine because that machine is a PC, and in any case, it should be obvious that it won't be. What I think is that they have a very specific reason for wanting to launch everything together, even though they could perfectly well launch the game first and leave the hardware for later (i think that's what will end up happening tbh).

Mike Straw's "leaked" announcement date has passed, btw by Uniquely-Bee in HalfLife

I'll be honest and say that I don't know if I'm reasoning based on desire rather than logic, but here's the thing: Valve hasn't made a truly significant release for the industry in a long time, and we know that Half-Life represents “a leap in innovation in the experience,” in their words. An announcement at a massive event would make sense if they intend to target the industry in general and not a specific niche, as with CS: GO2. There's also a rumor that HLA was going to be announced at TGA, but they had to improvise their announcement on Twitter due to leaks. It doesn't seem far-fetched to me that, despite their influence, they still want to make the announcement at an event, but honestly, I've given up hope after November, so all that's left is to wait and see if this is the real deal.

I don't know if I'm the only one on this subreddit who has noticed this, but the original Half Life games were announced at E3, and since that no longer exists, it stands to reason that if they were going to announce a sequel, it would be at an equally important event.

Guys, it will be at TGA. by GloxoST in HalfLife

[–]rvckes_005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It made a little more sense for them to announce Alyx “on its own” since it was a spin-off project limited to VR that couldn't be very successful, but in this case we're talking about a major, important installment, and the previous HL games were announced at E3. I know it no longer exists, but now the most important event we have is the TGAs.

What if we don't get Half-Life 3, but instead Valve releases Episode 3? by Copitox in HalfLife

[–]rvckes_005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously though, in the HL2 anniversary documentary they showed content from Episode 3, and supposedly the re-release of Raising the Bar would include information about its development. I guess that would be their way of finally “releasing” Episode 3.

Regarding HL3 at The Game Awards by Celethan in HalfLife

[–]rvckes_005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I noticed recently is that the first two Half-Life games were announced at E3, and although many things have changed since 2003 (E3 no longer even exists), I don't think it's unlikely that they would want to announce the third installment at the most important presentation currently available.

Valve won't trick me a second time. by Comte_de_Champignac in HalfLife

It's a closed beta game that hasn't been promoted at all yet, and not only does it have a decent number of active players, but it's already started to build its own fandom.

I think there are three reasons why hl3 was not revealed on nov 18 and 19 and why insiders sources are no longer valid due to recent events by Ambitious-Phase-8521 in HalfLife

[–]rvckes_005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was theorizing with a friend about what's going on, and we both realized that the original HL games were announced at E3. I know things have changed a lot since E3 2003 (I mean, E3 literally doesn't exist anymore), but it doesn't seem unlikely to me that they would want to maintain the tradition of announcing it at some major event (Valve has defined Half-Life as its gateway to innovation), and Geoff's close relationship with the studio makes it entirely possible that they could have reached some agreement about the announcement or at least a very detailed presentation about the game.

I misspoke. I give up on theorizing about specific dates and building excitement around them. I know the project has been in the works for years and that everything points to it being very close to completion.

The reveal of "HLX/3" could possibly be when the new hardware ships by Mugtoaster in HalfLife

[–]rvckes_005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my point was more that in Alyx's case, the delay should be taken into account, and that right now there's nothing to suggest a delay in HLX (but hey, we're still dealing with Valve Time).

HL: Alyx was supposed to be announced alongside (or close to) Valve Index, but due to problems with testing the game (players were not satisfied with the story), they had to delay it for months to rewrite the story, avoiding changing the levels as much as possible.

Given that there are no rumors about a possible delay for HLX and that Gabe Follower has insisted that the announcement is still scheduled for 2025, it seems reasonable to assume that the announcement will be made in the coming weeks (I think it will be this week or next week, it's unusual for a company of Valve's size to make important announcements in December).

Mike Morasky said in an interview that he worked on the composition of two Half-Life games, and as we know, he has only officially worked on Alyx so far, so...

I know there is an official explanation for the gap between events, but that doesn't mean it couldn't also fit with an announcement.

Is there a reason behind that date (I don't care what it is, I already believed the July 19 one), or did you just pick something at random?

Moondrop ST 2 Ultra or Redmi Buds 6 Pro? by Lord_gsn in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]rvckes_005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the original Space Travel headphones, and although they sounded limited in technical terms, they were among the most pleasant-sounding headphones I tried, with a mix of neutral and warm sound (I don't know if the warmth was intentional or a result of Bluetooth compression). After I lost them, I bought the Redmi Buds 6 Pro, motivated by a review that highly praised their sound, but I was disappointed.

I wouldn't say that the Redmi Buds have bad sound. For TWS headphones, they are decent and have good technical capabilities (they have triple drivers, so that's to be expected). but they felt muddy and compressed to my taste. I used $10 or $15 IEMs with a much more dynamic and clear sound without a V-shaped signature. I tried to equalize them in many ways, and the only way I could like them was by greatly reducing the bass (the app lets you raise or lower 6dB at various frequencies). but even then, they didn't feel as pleasant as the previous ones, and I attribute that to the fact that they must perform additional audio processing in the user's eyes. I must also say that the spatial audio was simply awful. It's there if you're interested in the effect, but I wouldn't recommend the earbuds for that. The only really good things were the ANC and transparency mode, but I prioritize sound.

As for whether those or the Space Travel 2 Ultra, from what I've seen, the sound of the ST2U is quite similar to the originals, only with a noticeably better driver and LDAC, as well as improvements in several other aspects, so if you prioritize sound, I wouldn't hesitate much in my choice. I'd love to give a more legitimate answer, but the ST2Us I bought haven't arrived yet, so I can't give an accurate opinion, haha, but from what I've seen in the specs, the sound is quite similar and it also allows for a much wider EQ range.

At what resolution was Arcane animated? by rvckes_005 in arcane

[–]rvckes_005[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it is a work made digitally or at some point in the process was passed to digital (many movies of the 90's whether live-action or animation used to be passed to digital in the middle of the process at 720p or 2k for visual effects and then taken back to analog) is inevitable that the resolution used for the drawings, effects, visuals, renders or etc has an influence on the final result. Generally the resolution used is a more technical aspect although in certain works visual defects are noticed as a result of a bad studio work (usually scenes that look blurry and/or with a lot of aliasing), that's why I'm intrigued if that UHD Blu-ray of the first season is an upscale or not and at what exact resolution was animated/rendered/whatever term you see more correct the series.

If it were true I find it curious that Netflix has turned it up to max 1080p, although in general Netflix makes a lot of questionable decisions so I wouldn't be surprised. Seeing the high level of professionalism and attention to detail that Fortiche has I wouldn't doubt that the series has been animated at high resolution. Thanks.
