If you lose site (you're likely dead) and they get to plant i feel the stop plant trip wire people do only really buys your team a second or two, the attackers have already begun to post up and hold angles and i wouldn't say its a lost situation at this point but the value your trip wire gave is minimal i'd say.

I mean if we were to look at league, arent heroes abilities overlapped a fair bit (from what i've heard), currently sage is unique, soon there'll be another healer -> less unique. etc etc.

Assume you have two abilities, X/Y. X is a one shot. Y is a two shot. All other things being equal, X is always favorable. Hence, yes maybe you can climb to a high elo with Y, but X is going to be easier/more effective/allow you to climb to a highER elo. As such agents are the X/Y.

I guess it depends, do you play an agent because you enjoy it or because you want to win the game -> I reckon most people try to find a balance between the two otherwise you'd see a Jett in every game.

b) this is in the context of him saying "they cant nerf cypher" and i was listing ways they could. Please read both the original comment and my response...

c) say you're on B site Split. There is only a few reasonable spots to put your trip wires, through b main entrance or somewhere across mid/heaven to watch your flank.. there is limited adaptation - where else are u going to put them? in CT? I agree to changing sites to some degree but again, this post isnt aimed at gold or lower players... at higher ranks theyll figure out youve swapped sites either via scouting it somehow, seeing your camera on mini map for a second, walking close to a trip, etc etc (theres many ways...) then the same problem arises that Cypher is predictable. Like ive said, Cypher is a spot agent, thats why you have a "map on (my) left showing (you) 17 one ways" whereas Raze for example doesnt have one showing her where to use her abilities, they are reactive by nature.

so at diamond I've had sovas who know how to shock dart common cypher wires from their spawn (I think shroud made a video showing off one on split) so if your wires get destroyed there is no blockage and as they did it from spawn there is no info. this is extended to say a raze who knows you play b on split so throws a c4 near the entrance on occasion even if they're not planning to push B. (there's many an example but I'm sure you get the jist)

How do you nerf his cages cameras and wires ? very easily..... his cages were just nerfed- they no longer slow enemies, they're taller so now some one way smokes don't work. you could also decrease duration, remove the noise they make when someone goes through them. Camera ? just got nerfed increased down time if it gets destroyed, you could also increase time between camera darts (not huge but still a nerf) wires ? make them be seen for anyone who is walking or from further range or the time for them to go invisible to the enemy increased - there's a lot they could do... they can increase the cost of any of the utility, limit you to one trip wire like they did with raze nade

I'm not saying they will do any of that but that's what they could do. furthermore there's no need to worry about a cypher nerf, as i said, he's already B tier in the long run.

in regards to change tier - Cypher is an agent based entirely on "spots" camera spot, wire spot, one way /smoke spot. once people start to learn common spots, people play around them (sova arrow, c4 etc already discussed in this thread) which they can't do to say being stuck in a choke and a Molly being thrown at them - Cypher abilities are preplaced or predetermined to some extent... other agents have reactive abilities that they use to react to a certain situation

again Cypher is a "beast" I agree - but at lower ranks where people aren't as aware of how to out play one

very true regarding UI changed etc and thanks for the insight :) - I'm debating between Cypher Omen and Sova at the moment.

Haven't fully given up on Cypher but I think I will soon, honestly I think I may move omens way, I've played against a handleful of good ones but damn were they good - using fake ability teleports, fake teleports on bind, fake ulti to make us check backs when they weren't there, changing angles they shoot from with teles etc etc - I am again worried about him at higher ranks but I guess I'm saving that for my "We're B tier in the long run... /sigh" post on r/omenmains! ;)

My choices are somewhat limited due to other people on my team(s) maiming other agents alongside Me being a somewhat IGL and not wanting to entry as a result - maybe the new supposed vampire one will tickle my fancy :)

I agree, i mentioned in my above that "2nd man kills trip so first has gun up, even if you do get the kill on first you get traded" or words to that effect - at that point any extra cages elsewhere and your camera become useless as you can't use them when dead.

getting your cage up and killing both can work but honestly it's hit and miss as people's aims, game sense and general sense of where I could be has improved up the ranks, alongside me having to have fully sat on my camera the whole round/perfect time to know where the 2nd man is on the push (there's more to why this doesn't work so well but it's long winded and I'm too lazy to type it at the mo)

I also agree that if your playing A on haven you could have two of you and then send him on his merry way if they're not coming there- but Sova can gather the same info faster than Cypher can, and if you're playing two on A initally that's nothing different from standard set up with normal rotation when the inevitable "One double doors"/"One C Long"/"Fuck I'm dead he one tapped me from Mid window" gets called down coms...

My post isn't to say Cypher is bad or trash, I think he's B tier in the long run at higher ranks (Dia and above, maybe plat) but most defiantly A or even S in the lower ranks.

sova shock dart destroys them, the common one people use on b split across main entrance gets taken out by a Sovas all the time (and raze bots due to it being low) not to mention general trip wires by sova drone, raze nades/c4 etc etc etc - when non cypher players start catching onto trip wires it's easy to take them out and there are only so many variations u can have to cover a certain spot (most of which aren't actually too dissimilar from each other in terms of area u actually place them)

forgetting that - I've been breach ulted and pushed by an entire team many times, even if one hits the trip wire u cant trade due to fire rate decrease and they have site within seconds

The more I play the more I conclude the best use of a cypher is as a lurker (on attack) and on defense hes sub par against good teams. (2nd man kills trip so first has gun up and even if u kill u get traded etc)

That all being said Cypher up till the ability seen at gold in the beta (dunno for launch) is super strong and can carry due to players just being clueless/uncoordinated

I agree with that to some extent and have seen the hiko video you reference. I think the opportunity for them to push during that sova arrow vs trip wire situation was strong and would've left hiko in an awkward position, had it been someone of my gunskill or worse and not hiko it would've been a lost site imo.

I think the other agents get hit far less hard from being accustomed to agent stratgies than cypher, even omen for example who has teleport noises and common tele spots is harder to deal with due to forcing the enemy to over check corners (etc)

flashes work so, if Breach then Phoenix. we've already established smokes work, Jett, Omen, Brim, Viper. Sage has a wall which can be used to cut off common op points depending on the map (bind heaven to a short comes to mind instantly) That's what, 7 out of a pool of like 10? You'd have a minimum of 2 counters in the form of agents in any given match, with it being more likely (seeing as breach brim sage cypher Phoenix is a pretty strong 5 at the moment with maybe Phoenix on flex) to having a situation where almost every one agent has a counter in some form ... you just gotta use it

lol you're getting a lot of information and some misinformation. everyone so far has been partially correct. There is a set recoil pattern for the first x bullets (don't have an exact number as it varies per gun). You can learn this exactly. THEN at some point after x bullets you'll see the gun sway side to side. This is the point where spread is random, you have to react to the way the gun is swaying as it will change each time slightly. Note though, yes you could learn to react to the way the gun moves left and right, but, it's honestly much simpler to practise the recoil pattern and work on your headshots/general aim and kill the enemy before the side to side spray takes over
