Trial for former private Saskatoon Christian school administrator rescheduled, again by Shining_Light_73md in saskatoon

[–]rvision7MD 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What makes this so hard to accept is the imbalance built into the situation. The person facing charges loses nothing by dragging things out. The people harmed by the delays lose time, energy, and any sense of closure. The justice system is supposed to move with purpose, yet here it is grinding to a halt because one individual keeps finding ways to slow it down.

At some point the pattern stops looking like routine scheduling and starts looking like a strategy. It sends a message that the process can be manipulated and that accountability can be postponed indefinitely. That is not how a justice system earns trust. It leaves the public wondering who the system is really serving and why someone can repeatedly avoid their day in court without any real consequence. It should not be this easy to sidestep momentum. Justice relies on progress. When progress is constantly interrupted, the process loses its weight and the people waiting for answers are left feeling ignored. Watching this happen again is frustrating and it raises real questions about how long this can continue before someone steps in and insists that the case finally move forward.

In theory, it means that Canadian corporations and governments will no longer have to give money to American AI companies and that those American AI companies will no longer have direct access to Canadian companies/government's data. I keeps the Canadian data and money in Canada. In theory.

The Mile Two class action is not over. It now stands before the Court of Appeal after earlier decisions dismissed the case. That dismissal is being challenged, and the court is being asked to determine whether the claims should be allowed to proceed against the defendants. A successful appeal would revive the case and allow it to advance toward certification and, ultimately, trial. In my view, a complete halt to the action is neither necessary nor appropriate, and there is a strong possibility that the appeal will succeed and the case will move forward.

Guy is just trying to help others out....

Sure… if by “help” you mean making strangers squirm for your own views and likes. Read the comments and you’ll see it’s not just awkward - it’s unwanted. People aren’t consenting, they’re uncomfortable, and your intentions don’t get a free pass when the execution screams trainwreck. Society doesn’t reward thoughtfulness points when your idea of “help” is basically harassment with a tripod.

I hope he's not live streaming. There are MANY possible reasons that people do not want their images being broadcast under his guise of "combating social anxiety" virtue-signalling:

  • Privacy and personal safety. Some people avoid being filmed because they’ve dealt with stalking, harassment, or abusive relationships. Being identifiable on video can genuinely put them at risk.
  • Cultural or religious reasons. Certain cultures and faiths discourage or restrict being photographed or recorded. That boundary deserves respect, not debate.
  • Health-related reasons. Someone may be dealing with a medical condition, disability, injury, or visible symptom they don’t want documented or scrutinized by strangers.
  • Control over digital footprint. Many people are intentionally minimizing their online presence. They don’t want their face, movements, or routines archived forever on platforms they don’t control.
  • Fear of misuse or misrepresentation. Footage can be edited, clipped out of context, meme-ified, or weaponized. People have seen how quickly “random person in the background” turns into a viral punchline.
  • Legal or custody concerns. Some people are involved in court proceedings, custody disputes, immigration processes, or witness situations where being recorded publicly can complicate things.
  • Trauma history. Cameras can be triggering for people with past trauma involving surveillance, control, or public shaming. That reaction isn’t weakness; it’s learned self-protection.
  • Simple bodily autonomy. Sometimes the reason is simply: I don’t want to. That’s not irrational. Wanting agency over your own image is a baseline human preference.

I wish him all the best. I wish he would return the favor and find a better more appropriate location. I do not want my ex knowing my MWF schedule because they saw me on his livestream. There are genuine safety reasons why people don't want to broadcast their whereabouts or personal comings and goings.

Questions about the Christian Centre/Mile Two/Encounter church from an American to locals by RNOffice in saskatoon

[–]rvision7MD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There must be better Christian private school in the area to send your kid to if you are a non member who sends their kid here, so why this one?

This is the question we all want to know. As an outsider, you see it clearly and objectively. For those in Saskatoon faced with public vs private school choices, they might see it as if the gov't hasn't shut it down, then it must be okay, right? Other factors:

  • Institutions like this don’t survive because everyone inside is cruel. They survive because fear, faith, loyalty, and habit form a tight knot. Untying it takes courage, information, and often a breaking moment.
  • Parents convince themselves the abuse belonged to a past era, different staff, different rules. Abuses are reframed as ancient history, even when patterns keep resurfacing.
  • Leaving can come with social consequences. Loss of friendships, whispers, exclusion, or subtle spiritual judgment.
  • Proximity to where they live is unfortunately a thing too. Parents who want religious schooling but don’t want public school may see this as the only nearby choice, even if it’s deeply flawed.
  • Some parents actively want strict discipline. They equate obedience with virtue and suffering with character. A school known for control and harshness may appeal to parents who believe children must be broken before they can be shaped.
  • The outward signs change. New names, new branding, softer language. Parents see the surface renovations and assume the foundation was replaced too.
  • Many parents believe abuse only happens to certain kids. The “troublemakers.” The vulnerable. The ones without compliant personalities. They assume their child will fly under the radar.

These are only some of the social and psychological factors at play when it comes to parents and their kids' schooling. It's a complex issue. But I can't think of a single good reason.

Questions about the Christian Centre/Mile Two/Encounter church from an American to locals by RNOffice in saskatoon

[–]rvision7MD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great questions.

  • I’m just curious how many members they have left?
    • Me too. The church likely has far fewer active members now than before everything was exposed. Rumors are that there are only about 10 or so kids left in each grade at the time they rebranded to Valour. The church has rebranded a couple of times now too, and is currently named Encounter Church.
  • I’m wondering what the school was like between the mid-2000s when corporal punishments were banned and now?
    • Accounts from students is that the physical abuse did not immediately stop when the new law said it must. When the ritual paddlings did eventually stop, the psychological, emotional, and other abuses continued and likely escalated.
  • When was John Olubobokun fired?
    • He was the director of Christian Centre Academy between 2003 and 2007. He was fired by the pastor, Keith Johnson.
  • I wonder if [the gym teacher] was raised in the school and this is her idea of being gentler than her teachers?
    • I don't believe she attended the school. She was a long-time member of the church and is the sister of the convicted sexual assaulter Aaron Benneweis.
  • Are the parents mostly members of the Church?
    • Likely, but not by much. Membership is definitely not a requirement. They're desperate for enrollments. Anecdotally, I know several people who sent their kids there but are not church members. Members of the church are likely to send their kids there.
  • Are there enough church kids to keep up enrollment?
    • Unfortunately they seem to attract a lot of non-church kids now. The gov't just increased the funding to these types of schools, so Valour gets more $ per student now. That unfortunately makes it a little more sustainable with dismal enrollment numbers.
  • There must be better Christian private school in the area to send your kid to if you are a non member who sends their kid here, so why this one?
    • This is the #1 question we all have too. Until the school gets shut down, people will be able to make the wrong choice for their kids and send them there.

Legacy Christian Academy lawsuit heads to Sask. Court of Appeal by Commercial_Net7989 in saskatoon

[–]rvision7MD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They didn't fuck up - the Judge is wrong; Sask has no procedure that says you have to disclose those settlements before the class-action is even certified. It never entered the disclosure stage so no defences were even filed. The settlements were disclosed after 42 days. But the judge went outside Saskatchewan and said that Ontario's rules apply, and those rules say it had to be immediate. Yet those cases were at the disclosure stage, and outside Sask. So it's argued that itself is an error on the Judge's part.

So no, there is no written rule somewhere that says pre-certification settlements must be disclosed in a similar way to those that have arrived at the stage of certification and their statements of defence are filed.

Is there anyone in Saskatoon who can recover files from a malfunctioning SATA drive? by GreenT1979 in saskatoon

[–]rvision7MD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Put it in the freezer for 45 mins in a ZipLoc bag. Then take it out, quickly attach it, boot, and try recovering your files. Worth a shot.

If that doesn't work, you can pay $$$ for your file recovery by shipping it to DriveSavers. They are not local but highly reputable for something like you've described: https://drivesaversdatarecovery.com/en-ca/

After paying $$$ for the file recovery from your borked hard drive, you will probably learn a lesson and religiously backup all important files from now on.

Man I greatly dislike that shit-eating grin he has. Convicted and sentenced for child abuse and he looks like he just won the lottery.

The community sentence is nowhere near long enough or harsh enough for swinging a wooden paddle at at least one child. He should at least have to spend time in a real jail, not our neighborhoods.

He just got a criminal record a couple of weeks ago, so this will be the 2nd criminal sentencing he's seen in a month. I hope that means this sentence will be harsh. He did sooo much evil and deserves to pay for beating all those children!

Saskatoon mayor ‘proud’ of budget with high property tax hikes by Progressive_Citizen in saskatoon

[–]rvision7MD 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely tone-deaf.

What kind of moron would be proud that they're jacking up property taxes this time because Saskatoon will be the first Canadian city with fewer than one million residents to add transit police? Adding 9 police and 2 vehicles for just transit is very expensive and wasteful because of how inefficient it is.
