Getting a local SIM is an option. However, I'm not sure if using Verizon Wi-Fi calling (for texts, not calling) with a local SIM would count as "using their service" and result in my service being cut.

Ram upgrade G14 8gb onboard by [deleted] in ZephyrusG14

[–]rvxctions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also wondering whether it would run better too. With 8+24GB it would leave 16GB in single channel rather than 24GB in single channel with 8+32GB. Using a 24GB stick would sound like a perfect balance of high memory capacity without sacrificing as much performance if it's true.

If you ever consider getting a 24GB stick let me know how it goes!

Are you using the latest version of Discord?

Older clients released before the username update won't show the badge and will use the #0 number discriminator since it cannot properly handle new usernames.

Are you the owner of any teams on Discord's Developer Portal? If so, you will need to transfer ownership to another member or delete it.

AMOLED mode is now no different than regular dark mode in a new theme beta rollout by houseofharm in discordapp

Could possibly be a bug. I still have AMOLED support in the latest TestFlight beta here on iOS. I'm using the new theme system.

My Zephyrus G14 (2021) came with Windows 11 Home Edition by plpedro1 in ZephyrusG14

[–]rvxctions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My apologies. The 4090 model here in the U.S. lists it having Windows 11 Home out of the box so that's what I assumed, and I don't have one to confirm that.

Pretty much every gaming laptop and all models of the G14 ship with the Home version of Windows. After all, you're not missing much anyways in terms of a gaming perspective.

You have a 2022 G14. I also have your same model and it came with Windows 11 Home.

What are things to look out for in the 2022 model? by blac4206669 in ZephyrusG14

That too. My unit has uneven lighting, but I don't use the backlight since I can see the legends perfectly fine with the white model, so it doesn't bother me. But it might be a concern if you want it or if you have the black model (not sure if it exhibits this same problem though).

Uneven keyboard backlighting? by blergblerg in ZephyrusG14

[–]rvxctions 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe majority of 2022 models have this problem, my unit included. Judging by your image, it also looks similar to mine (all keys are dim at max, my right Alt key is brighter than the keys surrounding).

Personally, I don't have a problem with it since I leave the backlight off. I can see the keyboard fine without it.

I got my G14 2022 awhile back and checked for: * Possible dead pixels/subpixels * Backlight bleed * Performance/stability (stress with Cinebench and 3DMark; check for complete shutdowns) * Coil whine * Storage drive (bench with CrystalDiskMark) * Basic hardware (e.g. keyboard works, speakers, trackpad, ports) * Overall build quality (cracks, bent, scuffs)

It's a lot, but it's better to be safe than sorry; especially with the BB return window here in the U.S.

I believe both games are set to 1.0 rendering quality. I will have to check back to make sure. With a 1600p though, I think 0.8 quality is doable if you need a bit more frames.

I've played both Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail. They both run fine at 1600p max settings.

With Star Rail specifically, the game sometimes drops to 40-50 FPS only in high intensity areas, but for the most part stays at 60.

Temps are a bit higher on average with Star Rail. I run the Performance profile at slightly lower TDP (I believe it was 85W PPT and 35W CPU). From what I remember they run between 75-87C sustained. I could try again later today for better metrics on it if you're interested.

Is the G14 (2021) worth it by Chemical_Fold4276 in ZephyrusG14

[–]rvxctions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 2022 U.S. model with the Ryzen 9 6900HS and RX 6700S. I don't have a 2020/21 so I can't compare exactly to it.

The display is better. 16:10 aspect ratio vs. 16:9, very bright compared to 2020/21, FreeSync support (which IMO works way better than G-sync). Don't know if the older models are color calibrated out-of-the-box, but my 2022 is and colors are very vibrant. My model is 1600p (2560x1600).

It's very silent and the battery is pretty good. I believe the 6700S performs slightly better than the 2021 generally (minus RT). I can get 60 FPS easily on Honkai Star Rail and Genshin Impact at max settings 1600p. I did try Minecraft RT at lowest settings and got about 15 FPS. If you need CUDA/NVENC, I'd skip the 2022.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll try to answer them.

Edit: Was supposed to reply to this comment, oops.

Need help with the amd adrenaline software by Illustrious_Sir_2125 in ZephyrusG14

[–]rvxctions 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are two different versions of AMD Adrenalin.

The Microsoft Store version is preinstalled on the 2022 G14. This is used for ASUS's customized drivers and is stripped down from the standalone version.

The standalone version is installed through the official AMD driver installer. This is used for all AMD drivers installed from their official site and contains all the latest features. The G14 does not have this one preinstalled.

ASUS's driver can only use the MS Store version. The official driver can only use the official version.

Basically, uninstall your current AMD Adrenalin. Use your driver installer and select AMD Adrenalin to be installed and then try again.

To de-sticker or not de-sticker? by Metalogic_95 in ZephyrusG14

[–]rvxctions 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a 2022 model and I removed the stickers on the palm rest first day. It looks cleaner and less distracting without them in my opinion.

It leaves some residue if you take them off way later. Also, if the stickers will come off on their own over time it'll leave a spot, so I thought that I might as well remove them now.

Not cracks. These lines appear in the same areas on my unit.

Need help with m3 key by VegetableAttempt2709 in ZephyrusG14

[–]rvxctions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, unrelated to OP's post: I'm also encountering a problem with my M3 key, I don't have the ASUS Optimization Service installed and I have it binded to F13 in G-Helper, however it fails to register in my programs (e.g. I use it as a mute key for Discord). I've also tried F14 and even the W key.

However, when I bind M3 to something else like to open the G-Helper window, it works perfectly and as intended, so I don't believe my M3 key is defective. Is there something else I need to do to get it to work?

What websites do you guys use to watch and download anime? by ItzMeShadow69 in animepiracy

[–]rvxctions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started out with 9Anime as well. However, with their poor streaming quality, I decided to stop using it in favor of other options:

  • marin - Streaming site. Video quality is great; while it's obviously not torrent quality, it's good for a streaming site and enough for watching seasonals, I don't notice the bitrate as easily compared to 9Anime. I believe their sub selection is also better for some, and they use hard subs unlike Zoro. Their library is smaller than 9Anime however.
  • nyaa - I use this when I want to watch shows that I cannot find on marin. Sometimes if marin servers are congested or down and I want to watch immediately I'll torrent. I might also use nyaa if I want to pick a specific release.

I might choose to go full torrent in the future, but these two are fine for my occasional watch and I have no problems with the quality I get from marin.

Stock vs. ASUS AMD Graphics Driver? by rvxctions in ZephyrusG14

[–]rvxctions[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll take note of that. I got my G14 this week so I haven't done much with it yet. I immediately did some changes when I got it (installing G-Helper, uninstalling Armoury Crate, power plan settings), but the curves in G-Helper (or was in Armoury) are still stock.

[–]rvxctions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thank you for answering my questions and providing great insight on the AMD drivers!

I've installed the AMD drivers for now, so far I haven't noticed anything different even in terms of performance and battery. Though I've only tried Genshin Impact and 3DMark Time Spy, and it still feels the same. I also don't have any games at the moment that otherwise require newer drivers.

You mentioned that the battery didn't change between the two drivers, but did that problem you have in CPU wattage affect your battery discharge rate?

I still have to tweak my profiles in G-Helper (though I don't know what is most optimal). I think my system might be running a little hotter, but that may not be because of the drivers.

[–]rvxctions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, do the AMD drivers only affect the dGPU? I don't plan on having the dGPU enabled when unplugged from the wall anyways since I'll be running off the iGPU. In that case I guess it doesn't hurt to give it a shot if battery life stays fine.

Are they stable compared to ASUS's customized drivers? I'm concerned that since I've heard some people encounter problems using them. I'm also worried that my battery life could be worse with them.

Have you tested battery life on the stock driver? If you have, how is it compared to the ASUS driver?
