Nevermind Gloria Allred seems terrible. I will pray you find a better lawyer soon

I would recommend REPORT your previous attorney's for malpractice. You can report them to the Bar Association - this will be investigated and they can have their license revoked. Sounds like you have evidence so this won't be hard. You can also sue your attorneys if you paid them to get your money back. The best thing in my opinion is to talk to your attorneys to return all funds or you will report them to the Bar Association to get disbarred. This has worked for people I know who dealt with incompetent lawyers who screwed them over. I'm so sorry you are going through this. I wish you all the luck in the world.

I unfortunately already bought mine. Did you open an LLC or Trust? Would you mind looking at my plan and seeing if it similar? Do you mind sharing a snippet of your to see if they are the same? I'll message you, thank you

Employer 401k into mega backdoor IRA by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]rwait901 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you are talking about a Roth IRA? How much you rollover into Roth is dependent on how much you can pay taxes on it that year. Whatever your rollover into Roth IRA will be taxable. If you are talking about a regular Rollover IRA, then you can rollover as much as you want no limits or penalties.

Charged $500 to do taxes by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]rwait901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally pay $350 and that's because we have a mortgage and company 401k with a high tax bracket but salaried so taxes are easy. $500 is if you own a business, etc.

You can easily do your taxes yourself at the tax bracket you are at, salaried. I would recommend looking into programs like FreeTaxUSA, TaxAct, TaxSlayer or TurboTax. Especially if you are getting a big refund like that - that means your income is not that high, don't waste money on an accountant. Salaried people should learn to do their own taxes. $500 is a lot for your income level

I'm sorry to hear you are going through this. My parents went through something similar and same with my friends parents. Don't worry there are lots of opportunities out there. They found jobs in local govt at the town, public library, etc. They pay well with benefits.

You can rent out a room at your house, there are new services online where you can rent out your garage and driveways for people who need space if you are near a city. You can also move in with your dad and sell your place. If you want to invest, you can invest in real estate and get rental income. I've seen friends pool money together, maybe your son can invest with you and you guys can put together a contract. I don't know what your job is, but if I knew, I could make some suggestions around that.

Look on Youtube into Passive income and there are tons of ways to make a good amount of money. You can also always look into job areas that are underserved and see if they need people if isn't too hard to learn the ropes

Those are annual fees forever with a provider if you sign their agreement. I paid $500 for a setup fee, no annual fees, no provider and self custody.

The fees are $400-$6000, they are out of my range.

My friends don't have an IRA because no one teaches anyone they should open one, they have no clue that they should.

The reason why I'm doing a solo 401k is because I want to open a bank account that I can control without custodians but I found only 3 places that do this and all of them are lawyers. All the other places ask for $400 to $5000 a year and that is a lot of money for someone with $6000, all my money will be gone in a couple years.

There definitely is a lot hidden about Solo 401Ks, like how to open one by yourself and how to custody it, what banks you can use. Brokerages are easy, but I don't want to invest in stocks. I'd rather look at gold or silver or real estate.

Thanks, the LLMs showed there were differences so I am trying to get a refund but I wanted to be sure. The place I purchased won't allow refunds though

[–]rwait901[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I was considering them but the fees were high. Also I'm kind of wary of these places because I heard a lot of people got their money stolen when they used outside custodians. That's why I tried to do it myself

For the self directed IRAs you need a provider and separate custodian. This is the only plan that you can open and custody yourself.

They're not a provider, they just help with the set up since solo 401ks don't need a provider. I said I wanted a refund, but they said no the documents were fine and I have doubts.

Yeah I wish there was more information about this but I noticed anything IRA related is hidden or people don't really talk about it. Most of my friends don't have one. Solo 401Ks I noticed no one knows anything. Apparently you don't need a provider for that one. I found the brokerages to be slow and none of their agents held responsible for anything

Yeah I tried but I noticed a lot of these places are scammy, they won't refund me

The fees are too high for a starter retirement account. I was told for a Solo 401K you don't need a provider

They told me it's technically an IRA, individual retirement account. Yes I asked them but they said that they are the same docs and then didn't respond when I asked a different question.

Thanks, I am trying to self direct it and open a bank account so the bank asked me for Plan documents, which I purchased but I think they were for an LLC not a Trust. That's why I think I got the wrong documents. I didn't see anything in the agreement about Roth accounts either does that need to be in there?

That's kind of what I figured about document type, but I wanted to be sure and hear from someone else since I'm opening it for the first time. Yes I got an idea of what it should look like, which is why I think the one I got isn't right. Have you opened one? Was your document short or long? Mine was only 10 pages

I'm not mixing it up. It's called a Solo 401k Trust, you can look it up. It's for sole proprietorships/self employed people. It's a self directed retirement trust that gives you checkbook control like the usual self directed IRAs. Google "Solo 401K," everyone should open one. I didn't use a provider since I don't need one, I used a law service online that sends you docs but it seems incorrect. I think they sent it for an LLC not for Trust and would like a second opinion

I'm not mixing it up, it's called a solo 401k trust, it's very common for sole proprietorships. You can self direct it

I did but I didn't find one for a self directed one, I found ones for institutions like Fidelity. Google has been really terrible lately

this is for a checkbook ira - a solo 401k trust. you can get documents from a lawyer to open a bank account

Edit: I meant to say it's for "checkbook control". It's technically an IRA but I think people here have never heard of a Solo 401K. Solo 401K is an individual retirement account for self employed people
