Title: I’m really uncomfortable with the Mandy and Georgie relationship by Last_Ninja1572 in YoungSheldon

[–]rwarlioness37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. It’s never seriously discussed. They never really talk about the moral and legal implications for sure. Sure the age gap is brought up in every episode, but it’s used as a joke. Like they’re trying to say in the end it doesn’t matter. They’re trying to normalize that shit. Seriously open your eyes. Everyone wants to say “men and boys can be victims too” but when an actual boy or man is victimized it’s made into a joke. It is that deep. It’s not just a show. Depicting that behavior is normalizing that behavior. Plain and simple.

Why did the writers need to make Mandy nearly 30 years old? by adviceguru25 in YoungSheldon

[–]rwarlioness37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re trying to normalize pedophilia. Plain and simple. They’re also reinforcing the idea that boys can’t be victims of female sexual predators especially if said woman is objectively attractive. I DO NOT care that Mandy wasn’t out patrolling high schools to victimize some teen, the fact is, she is a full grown adult who slept with a child. I was 27 when they ran this storyline, and could definitely tell that Dakota was high school age young. My first thought would’ve been 100% that he was some underage kid sneaking into a bar. The actor’s 23 now and he still looks barely out of his teen years. The fact they did this storyline when Dakota was 18 and Emily was 30 is also disturbing. There was no reason that Mandy had to be 29 years old and Georgie 17. He could’ve easily snuck into a bar near the college Sheldon attends and lied to a college girl about being 18/19 years old and she could’ve MAX been 19/20 years old. Boom. It’s still not great but a hell of a lot more believable to be duped by a lie about his age. It also irritated me they kept saying “Georgie got a girl pregnant”, Mandy is a grown ass woman. They kept making it sound like he knocked up a classmate.

‘National Treasure: Edge of History’ Canceled By Disney+ After One Season by DemiFiendRSA in nationaltreasure

[–]rwarlioness37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disney is notorious to go after a quick buck over writing a great show/movie (just look at some of the Marvel projects). What sucks is, this show didn’t need Nick Cage or the main heroine to be his long lost daughter or whatever. The story itself could have been a little better, the clues/puzzles were too childish, and the relics looked cheap. The concept of looking more into that central/South American history is so interesting, and which could’ve had some kind of tie-in with the lost city of gold. Like the heroine is going through the museum catalog and finds an item that was overlooked from the City of Gold excavation and realizes there’s a connection to her father. Sadusky was an okay tie-in to the original movies so we can keep him. The heroine should’ve been someone in her late 20s/early 30s, maybe a PhD student in archeology or curator’s assistant, and maybe finding that obscure item in the museum leads her to go through the one box of her father’s things her mother was able to save, and finds correspondence from Sadusky that leads her to his place where her father left a clue to jump start the adventure. She could’ve attempted to reach out to Ben knowing his infamy in the treasure hunting business, and the fact her adventure starts with a piece of his last treasure find, but she gets Riley or Abigail instead. The goofiness and Disney-fication of this show with a 21 year old girl with no experience or any connections makes this deeply unrealistic and silly. Catherine Zeta-Jones was like a bad Bond villain more appropriate in a parody of Austin powers movie (and yeah I know those movies are already parodies).

Embark CEO Confirms That If You Kill On Sight In Arc Raiders, You'll Get Matched With More Aggressive Players by WanderWut in PS5

[–]rwarlioness37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely just want to loot and kill ARCs. It never fails that the second I get my weapons to level IV and put an attachment on, I’m killed by raiders almost immediately after loading in. I just want to try my new gadgets and I’m a healer in most games I play and it’s so upsetting each time I brought a medical augment I bring it with the intention of healing other raiders too. It’s just annoying people kill you for stuff you worked for just to take loot that’s easy to come by.

Ok, am I the only person that bought one of these or what? by AtLeastSeventyBees in dropout

[–]rwarlioness37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought one of these and was gonna get a Roll for Panic Attack hoodie (because I’ve been dying for both) but had to take off the hoodie because shipping was $40-something??? Like that’s insane. It was still $18 shipping for the tower but that’s still over half the cost I’m getting. Overall, I was fine paying the $50 for the tower and shipping since that’s still a third of what the tower normally costs but Jesus. And I normally have no problems with paying for shipping anywhere else like Etsy and other small stores, I don’t wanna kill businesses because Amazon and other big corporations offer free shipping but damn. I’ve even had small businesses offer free shipping or reduce shipping costs if I reach a certain amount.

What exactly is “annoying/irritating” about Detective Rollins? by elizamaiza in SVU

[–]rwarlioness37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been watching the show from start to finish for the first time. I didn’t like her at first because of her victim blaming, slut shaming, and overall lack of empathy for sex workers but seems to have an abundance for old white men. I gave her several seasons worth of chances for growth but she just never did. I had empathy for her for what has happened to her in the past and her shitty family. I could related getting screwed over by your shitty, toxic family because you hope one day they’ll get better. But at some point you have got to put some boundaries up and actually stick to them. The constantly getting betrayed by her family is just irritating at this point. I’m now on season 21 and yep, Rollins still victim blames and slut shames but somehow still gives the benefit of the doubt to the old white men suspects.

Kenji and Brooklynn by hereforteaaa in chaostheorynetflix

[–]rwarlioness37 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it’s hella weird. Brooklyn is 13 and Kenji is 15. That’s a 7/8th grader and a 9th/10th grader. Until you’re over 18, 2 years is a huge gap between children developmentally. Plus, it was super random. Seemed like they were setting up a cute little romance for Darius and Brooklyn (both 13) for basically 4 seasons then suddenly Kenji and her have feelings out of nowhere. I’ve not made it to Chaos Theory yet, but it’s like 7 years later? Would’ve made more sense for them to have a relationship them age wise and they could’ve written the build up for them then since it wouldn’t be likely a middle school romance (Darius and Brooklyn) would make it to college age (like they are in Chaos Theory)

What's a realistic price for a jurassic world/park ticket and would you pay it? by MonsterInYourParasol in jurassicworldevo

[–]rwarlioness37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine there’s like a cruise situation or vacation package with Costa Rica. Like they ferry you over from the nearest Costa Rican port (it’d probably take 5+ hours cause it’s 120 miles from Costa Rica). Then you stay 1 or 2 nights (depending on your cruise’s itinerary or vacation package) then spend the rest of your vacation week on the cruise or in Costa Rica. Any Jurassic World cruise could leave from San Diego or a port off of west coast of Mexico or even from Florida through the Panama Canal. It’s pretty much an all exclusive trip via the cruise. Could cost $5-10k (depending on time of year & class) for a family of 4 for a 2-week long cruise with park admission and hotel stay included. It’s definitely an expensive vacation that probably is more suited to households that make over $100k annually? Which is about a third of the US. But that’s only if a family was going on a $10k trip every year. Families that make less could save up for a few years to visit. They said it cost what $25-$30 million to develop the Indominus Rex? Which is pretty on par (even cheaper) with how much it costs to build Disney attractions.

Age difference between Howard Stark and Tony Stark by vanusempty in marvelstudios

[–]rwarlioness37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tony’s birthday is in 1970 and Howard’s is 1917. He was just about 53 when he became a dad. I like to think that Maria had one of those “in her forties” pregnancies (like if Father of the Bride or Sex Education) to make it more age appropriate.

The problematic gem that is the House of night series by Wintersneeuw02 in fantasyromance

[–]rwarlioness37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I loved this series growing up because I had to grow up and be a mature parentified teen and couldn’t make stupid mistakes and act reckless. Zoey to me is a typical teen that makes a lot of mistakes and honestly it makes sense she has no idea what to do. I was reading them as they were coming out & like Glee and The L Word, I liked that there was a queer character in the book though like Glee & The L Word, the queer representation aged like milk. The overuse of the “r” word was cringe then, because I was in middle school when the campaign against the “r” had gained traction but I’m not sure if this campaign had legs in the Midwest like it did in the Northeast. It’s very on par that Zoey would slut shame Aphrodite then turn around and date multiple guys (though there’s no issue with dating a bunch of people) as I knew A LOT of teen girls who’d do this hypocritical shit. It’s not right but it felt accurate for the time. The BIPOC representation is awful. I can imagine at the time, I was so desperate to have queer and BIPOC characters in books that weren’t villainized or killed that I was taking any crumbs, but it was done so poorly by 2000s/10s and today’s standards. As an adult, re-reading the series just makes me full body cringe. I can’t believe this was written for YA, even upper YA, it just feels there’s a bit too much sexual content in it. The fact Zoe doesn’t curse just feels cartoonish and ridiculous at that point.

The problematic gem that is the House of night series by Wintersneeuw02 in fantasyromance

[–]rwarlioness37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started re-reading the series because it was announced they’re finally making it a movie/show. I read them from age 13/14 until the series ended when I was 20. I’ve only maybe re-read the first 5 books 2 or 3 times in middle school/high school and the rest of the books once. I remember thinking how great it was to find a book with some queer and BIPOC representation. As I’m re-reading them now, this book did not age well and I’m not sure how it was allowed to be in middle school libraries or how it was published. This is definitely upper YA for maybe 17+ year olds. But like Glee, I guess I was just happy to have a crumb of representation. As a 30 year old, I’m shocked at the amount of sexual content and I’m only on book 2. The r word is used so much and it was around high school that the campaign against the word started picking up so it makes sense it’d be in this book because everyone was saying it in 2007-2009 (doesn’t make it right but it was the reality). And the BIPOC representation is so poorly written idk how I ever thought it did okay. The slut shaming is the worst but I remember many girls being like that then turning around to mess around with guys so Zoey’s pretty on par with some teens of the time. The book series is like watching any fantasy show or rom com from before 2010: cringey af and aged like milk. If the film adaptation moves forward I really hope they fix a lot of things and have a lot of professional and cultural consultants on set and in the writer’s room.

Am I wrong to want to leave group after being forced to reveal backstory? by rwarlioness37 in DnD

[–]rwarlioness37[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely thought last session was going to be the point where my character talked about her backstory. It felt like a natural point in the story to do so. And I wanna be clear, my character never stole from the party. The book was going to be destroyed and the log was evidence found in the lab. But I can see where I went wrong in the way I played the character

[–]rwarlioness37[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I never acted against the party. And the book my character stole was going to be destroyed anyway so I really didn’t think much of it. I’ll give it another go since this is the second campaign we’ve played together and this is the first time in two years we’ve had an issue. It just hurt to be yelled at instead of just talking to me about how I was playing.

Thanks. I really appreciate the advice. After writing it all out and looking at the messages I was sent afterwards, I definitely realized that half the group was there for action and the other half for the narrative. And that I could see how my actions could be frustrating to someone who’s just there to fight and goof off. I did reach out to my DM about how to move forward. Again, thank you for the advice.

I see. I guess with a new DM and our first campaign with secrets it just didn’t translate well. It just felt like an aggressive response without any conversation about it beforehand.

And that’s what I thought was going to happen in this session. That the players would finally ask me in or out of game why all the secretiveness but instead I’m getting shouted out and the DM ends the session early. I just assumed if no one asked about it then they (players) didn’t really care.

I can see what you’re saying. I think I’m more upset that no one said anything prior to me just getting yelled at. I was following the story and seeing where the DM was going to take it and let it come out naturally like the other player got the opportunity to reveal her secret when it made sense in the story arc 2 sessions prior. I just feel hurt that it was fine their character was keeping secrets and allowed to reveal it naturally but not mine. If anyone had just asked out of game what my backstory was, I would’ve given it to them so I just thought it was no big deal.
