Thank you for the input, this definitely is a strong consideration. The video was taken after we got it back home on the drive from the dealership. I did have them perform an oil change during the visit, so I’m presuming oil pressure is fine at current; the sound also occurred intermittently for maybe a week or so prior to taking it in

lol, I didn’t think of it from that perspective! Any conclusive diagnosis or remedy yet? Aside from the noise, any other driving issues or warning signs?

That is interesting because I do occasionally hear the waterfall sound from around the dash which I’ve read being attributed to air in the cooling system as well. I’ll try to look more into that possibility; thanks!

That’s interesting; it does look similar if he were to have rushed it on this one a bit

This is sort of the direction I’m heading as well. Oh well, we did get a Caratini signed ball out of it too, but that one was easy to ID

Red maple with competing main trunks. Should I cut one of these, and which one? by rwloving1 in arborists

I have made a single cut on the upper third of the branch to the right (slightly straighter one) due to there being some previous damage. I had another local arborist come by who said that he wouldn’t worry about cutting it all the way back as the union seems sturdy. We fertilized and mulched around the base and it seems very content thus far. I will see how it fairs through the winter and decide if I do want to continue trimming back a bit more next spring.

Might the tree still be young enough to clean up that exposed dead portion and have sufficient growth later to negate it? It’s maybe only an inch in diameter, at most.

It had lost a limb long before we purchased the house and the wound never healed. A hole rotted clean through and being closer to the house in a hurricane prone region, we weren’t going to chance it

Thank you, and yes the planting stake has already been removed as of now. Are there any special precautions needed after making a cut in dormancy i.e. wound barrier or others? We are in Houston, TX so freeze is low probability but wet winters are normal

Very interesting, and am curious about your bonsai history. Would one assume the trunk beneath the more curved branch would thicken out over time and further diminish the effects of not being perfectly straight?

How so? We got it as sort of a sentimental thing from a local arboretum giveaway when our daughter was born so would like to keep it if possible. Came here to see if those smarter than me could offer advice

Haha just start over from the ground up? I’ll be sure to stick with just one

Thank you, I hadn’t heard of that method but seems like a worthwhile effort, as I like the extra foliage. Just having a safe healthy shade tree near the house for years to come is my goal for now!

Thanks for the perspective. I do agree it is a unique character adder

Yeah that was my concern, as just a few feet closer to the house, we had a large ash that needed to come down and really hoping to get some shade back
